  • Private glamping in a vintage caravan in Northumberland
  • A 15-minute drive from the beach; 45 minutes from the national park
  • Hob, fridge, radio and outdoor seating area; farm shop and café nearby
If you’re pining after a private escape, check in at this glamping site and propel yourself into Northumberland’s castles, coast and countryside. A 15-minute drive from the nearest beach and 45 minutes from the Northumberland National Park, at Willow and Greene you’ll have a hay meadow to yourself and a 1970s vintage caravan as a base. Take a step back in time… the cosy caravan (by the name of Valerie) is retro in looks but has contemporary comforts including a double bed, an induction hob and DAB Bluetooth radio. Put on some tunes, grab a drink you've stored in the fridge and kick back in privacy in the outdoor seating area. Handily, there’s a single bed for a third person and other facilities including a portable toilet (but please notes there are no showers or an amenities block on site). So that you can take off to the local attractions, there’s space to park the car 160 metres away from the caravan. It’s a 10-minute drive into the market town of Morpeth, where there are supermarkets and ample independent shops. If you’d rather walk somewhere, it’s a leisurely five-minute stroll to the nearby farm shop and café for tasty local produce or 10 minutes’ walk to an Indian restaurant and a well-stocked small shop to create a stash of basic supplies.

Local attractions

Ah, the seaside… the sandy stretch at Blyth beach (15 minutes’ drive) is more than just a good wildlife zone to spot seals or dolphins. There’s also surfing, jetskiing, angling or walks in the dunes. Another sandy spot, Cresswell Beach (25 minutes) also has surfing, fishing and plenty of space for swimming. And if you’re after a scenic stretch on the coastal path, the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (45 minutes) is also within reach. It’s likely you’ve arrived in Northumberland for more activities in the outdoors. If so, prep a picnic for Plessey Woods Country Park (five minutes). Here, there are riverside wanders, nature trails and plenty of spots popular with birdwatchers. You’ll also want to plan in a stroll around Northumberlandia (10 minutes), a land sculpture in the shape of a woman. Alternatively, for wanders around the local castles, there are ruins at Mitford Castle (10 minutes), the National Trust’s Dunstanburgh Castle (40 minutes) or the well-preserved Alnwick Castle (half an hour). No matter how old you are, Whitehouse Farm Centre (10 minutes) is a fun day out too, with farm animals to feed and tractors to ride. If you want to see more creatures up close, Northumberland Country Zoo (15 minutes) has plenty of big and small animals in its enclosures.
