  • Peaceful site 10 minutes’ drive from York city centre
  • Well-placed for a city break in a rural setting
  • Half an hour from Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Tired of spending your hols stuck in the car? At Crockey Hill Caravan Site, 10 minutes’ drive from York city centre in North Yorkshire, you can park up for a few days and let yourself forget where you put the keys – you won’t need them. Crockey Hill is well-placed for exploring this part of Yorkshire on two wheels: routes 65 and 66 of the National Cycle Network are easily accessible, both around 15 minutes’ cycle from the site – follow these to make your way to other national routes that crisscross the North Yorkshire countryside. Missing city life? You can catch the bus into York from the stop right outside the site entrance and wander the city streets, visiting York Minster, the National Railway Museum, a host of breweries and tons more. If you want to party the night away in the city bars and clubs, there are even late-night buses at weekends that’ll bring you back to base. Back on site, you can relax after your busy days and nights. Once you’ve worked up an appetite – or even if you’re just craving hangover food – you can pile up the barbecue with supplies from the nearby farm shop then chow down in peace and quiet. If you’d prefer a break from the cooking, there are plenty of restaurants, and bar-restaurants, nearby. The site has a drinking water tap and grey water and waste disposal points but please note there are no toilets or showers.

From the manager: Thank you for your great review! The local bus is an easy way to travel into the city, a bus every 20 minutes during the day and hourly after teatime - a great saving on car park charges. Hope to see you again if you are back this way. Kind regards Gina and Gary

From the manager: Delighted you would recommend us to friends and stay again. Fab that you made the most of local cycling opportunities. The Sustran cycle Route 65 passes nearby - it is a lovely route into York via the Racecourse, the old Terry's Chocolate Factory and along the riverside - some lovely pubs and cafes along the route at Naburn, Bishopthorpe, Rowntrees Park and the riverside..you can literally cycle into York ending up at the famous Kings Arm on Kings Staith. Happy cycling! Kind regards Gina and Gary

Liked Clean tidy pitch. Quiet site on the edge of York. Very much in the countryside with the city a 5 min drive away.

Friendly helpful owners who ensured that they were available to help if need arose, but otherwise left you to it.

No facilities, but electric hook up was all we needed. Very relaxing for a city break.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We pride ourselves on being able to offer a city break in a rural setting and you sound to have relaxed and felt the same. The fabulous bus service and the cycle routes make getting in and and out of the city easy. Hope we can welcome you to stay again :) Kind regards Gina and Gary

Electric optional grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Good size pitcher's all grass but very good drainage as it rained heavy all night and could not tell in the morning dry as a bone.Very friendly staff, good information explained about the bus routes and places to visit, easy to go to York and cheep . Also a shed with information leaflets, easy to get water and disposal point enjoyed it lovely little site.

Disliked No toilets and showers

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Your review is greatly appreciated. The grass field is sandy and so all surface water drains away quickly. Even in the winter months we can stay open until early December which is great for visitors to the famous York Christmas markets and Ice Skating. Hope we can welcome you another time. Kind regards Gina and Gary

Local attractions

Start your stay at Crockey Hill Caravan Site with a step back in time at the haunted Nunnington Hall or the spectacular Castle Howard (which eagle-eyed visitors may recognise as the setting for Brideshead Revisited), both within 40 minutes’ drive of the site. If you’re in need of a little retail therapy after all that (hard to look at the decadence of those old stately piles without wanting just a little of your own), you have options: the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet is less than five minutes from Crockey Hill, and you’re a bus trip or 10-minute drive from the shops of York (make sure to stop by the spectacular Shambles for souvenirs). Once you’ve burned a hole in your credit card, stick around York for the racecourse, Jorvik Viking Centre and York Dungeon, then set your mouth watering with a guided tour of the city’s cocoa-y goodness past at York’s Chocolate Story. Want to immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of unbridled nature instead? Make your way to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to follow riverbank footpaths, farmland trails and scenic bridleways, and be sure to stop into the highly recommended pubs, cafés and restaurants when you need to get your energy back.
