  • A 95-acre woodland site a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the stunning Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Two-mile nature trail with a pond and modern amenities blocks
You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil… But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that… in fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite…? It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby, and has easy access to the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands. And it's set on 95 acres of good-looking woodland, with a two-mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees and past a pond. There's also easy access for caravans and tourers. The on-site pantry shop in the reception area stocks essentials and stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch). The park also has a book exchange service. Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

There is no playground for children, but there is plenty of woodland. Please be aware the Woodsmith project by Anglo American plc is taking place in the area. It has not caused disruption but it's ongoing. During quiet periods only one toilet block may be in use, which will also be closed for a short period in the morning and evening for cleaning.

Liked: Friendly staff, immaculate site, toilet blocks. Easy access from main road and to surrounding villages. Quite sure with excellent walks in woods along with large enclosed dog exercise field.

Disliked: Only one bin area for whole site.

From the manager: Thank you for your great review, so glad you enjoyed the site.

We are 4/5 miles from Whitby but as you said we are a stones throw from the main A171 so lots of exciting places to explore.

We look forward to welcoming you back, Lisa.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (adults only)

Liked: The site is set in a lovely wooded area, very quiet, all motorhome pitches are gravel and level. There are two very clean and well equipped toilet blocks both have chemical toilet disposal and the one near motorhome pitches has a drive over gray water drain. Very good site in general Will book again

Disliked: Internet signal is average but usable, TV signal is ok but we had to retune after we were out for the day

From the manager: Good morning and thank you for taking the time to review.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and I'll pass all reviews to our new wardens this year who are settling in nicely as its great for them to see feedback.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (adults only)

Liked: Tranquil woodland and large pitches

Disliked: Maybe a bit more signage!! Free WiFi would have been good.

From the manager: Good morning

Didn't you have some great weather for the start of your stay, not a bad bank holiday weekend!

Yes we are very tranquil, some say to tranquil, so I'm glad you appreciated the parks relaxed vibe.

A heads up on what signage was missing/needed would be great so we could address this and one day perhaps we could offer free Wi-Fi but sadly this is not the case at present, Ladycross is a great spot to escape the world, but I appreciate Wi-Fi is important to keep in touch with family, to work while on a break or to watch those all important football games!

But I'm so glad you would return and we look forward to welcoming you back another time.

Regards Lisa

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very quiet site, mostly season pitches. Very large pitches, with great, immaculately clean showers and toilets. Beautiful woodland setting. Easy access to the Esk valley. We were e-biking, superb location for that, Beatiful area. Some very steep hills around. A couple of nice pubs within a 5 minute cycle or 20 minute walk

Disliked: Only paid for wifi, and there is very bad mobile reception on the site

From the manager: Good morning and thank you so much for your 10/10 review, very much appreciated.

Yes we have lots of hills so E-bikes are perfect for this area, so glad you explored.

Thank you for highlighting Wi-Fi and phone dislikes, it's good for others to read this before they book so they can see customers comments, one day perhaps we could offer free Wi-Fi but this is not the case at present, it's purchased through Voneus who offer various packages. The phone signal is out of my hands also, even my provider no longer works well in this area as other providers improve so there are always going to be changes.

Thank you again for your great review and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Regards
Lisa

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I am a little disappointed in the low score but everyone's opinion is welcome so others can make their own choices when booking.

Just a reminder we are a very quiet site that values the tranquility of our woodland, wildlife and countryside here in Egton, Pitch Up lists everything we offer or don't offer, so we ask you all to check first this is the site for you before you book and to check where we are on the map as 4/5 miles from Whitby.

Thanks again
Lisa

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (adults only)

Liked: The site was very clean and well cared for, quiet, lovely atmosphere, just outside Whitby and taxi into the town was very reasonable.

Disliked: Nothing

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review.

We are a little way out of town and yes taxi's are available, there is also a park and ride on the outskirts of Whitby and also the X93 double decker bus passes on the main road.

Gald you enjoyed your stay.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (adults only)

Liked: This site and the team that look after it are fantastic.
I could go on about all the different aspects that gave rise to my opening sentence but that would be longer than your average dissertation.
Even our dog settled in within an hour and enjoyed herself, especially the walk through the woods to the communal field.
We didn’t bother with Wi-Fi as we wanted to enjoy a quiet weekend.

Disliked: Not discovering it before now.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for a fabulous review, it makes it all worth it!

From Whitby Take the A171 towards Middlesborough. Please note: the A169 Whitby to Pickering northbound has steep narrow country lanes when approaching Sleights. If you are taking this road, continue on the A169 up to the roundabout. Turn left onto the A171. Danger! Do not turn left off the A169 signposted Grosmont, Egton. It is dangerously steep with narrow country lanes that drop to sea level. Follow the directions as above.
