Liked: Lovely setting and scenery, peaceful and secluded, quiet village, great pub nearby, and pizzas onsite Thursday-Sunday. New toilet and shower block made facilities better than in photos. Fridge and covered sink. Saw the friendly owner daily.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Well what can I say, what a lovely place. Stayed 3 nights over BH Weekend, just at the back end of Storm Lillian, was a bit apprehensive but the camping field is nice and secluded so no issues with the wind. When I arrived I was the only one so could pitch wherever, so picked down the bottom just because it seemed calmer with the gusts. The toilet and shower were absolutely the best I've ever seen from such a small campsite (6 pitches), an absolute credit to Cecilia. The views are wonderful, the pizzas from Cecilia were delicious and better than most pizza restaurants I've been to. The pub, Fox and Hounds, is beautiful and the staff are amazing, very attentive and it had a real family feel. You will need to book for the evening service, but in my experience lunch seemed to be ok if you were just popping in for something to eat. Obviously very dog friendly, as 99% of people have at least one! I've said this about many campsites over the years, I've always said I'd love to come back, but haven't, but with no hesitation in mind I'll be coming back in April, no question. And I can only imagine that it will be at least a couple of long weekends a year for the foreseeable. I'm posting this 6 hours after getting back, and wish I'd could of stayed tonight. Thank you. Awesome!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely small quiet site in great location on the Dales Way. I think only 6 pitches. Modern clean facilities.

Disliked: Lots of midges in the evening so don’t forget to cover up, use the skin-so-soft and light the citronella candles!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: What a delightful and charming site. Arrived a bit damp after a pretty tiring cycle over the dales but was instantly refreshed by the warm shower and clean facilities. There was only one other tent staying so I had plenty of room and was delighted to sample the on site pizzeria which rounded off the evening perfectly. A rare treat in the Dales

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We have just had a two night stay and it was perfect for us. The site itself is in a stunning location and very well presented. The facilities are spotless and perfect for the size of the site. We had to try the pizzas on site aswel which are delicious. My two children loved the site and the surrounding area and we will without a doubt be back again and again. As other have stated access is tight with the arch and the gate to the field but we managed with no issues in a Hyundai i800 so I'd imagine most cars would have no issues at all just take your time. I'd change nothing about the site or the host. See you soon 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: My two sisters and I stayed for two nights. What a beautiful little site! The toilet, shower, and washing up area were lovely and clean. Cecilia is friendly and approachable, and her pizzas are amazing! The site is a lovely little sheltered field next to a working farm. Obviously there is a bit of noise from the farm but nothing too early or disturbing. Lovely views from the site, and limited light pollution at night means you can see the stars. The local pub serves delicious food. There are lots of beautiful walks in the area.

Disliked: If you have a particularly wide car you might struggle to drive onto the field through the beautiful arch and gate. They really are beautiful and I wouldn't want them to be changed, but it did take a lot of concentration! The shower cubicle could do with a shelf to pop your shampoo on.

Local attractions

Local village Starbotton is a popular startoff point for Yorkshire Dales and Wharfdale hikes, as it's near the Dales Way, running for 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria. Energetic types could also tackle Buckden Pike (10 minutes' drive), a heady fell hike leading to the top of Wharfedale; the only higher peak in the area is Great Whernside (15 minutes), a paltry two metres taller. There's loads more to see and do in the area by car, such as Kilnsey Park, (15 minutes), a farm park with fishing and kids' activities), or a look at the history and industry of the area at the Dales Countryside Museum (35 minutes) or grand old Bolton Abbey, 40 minutes away. If you're craving yet more Yorkshire cuisine, cheesy treats at Wensleydale Creamery are within 35 minutes' drive. Further afield, have a peaceful ride on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, the spectacular 73-mile journey from Settle (50 minutes) to Carlisle via the Yorkshire Dales,  the North Pennines and the mighty Ribblehead Viaduct; this one is a bit of a must.
