Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

A grand spot, loved for its views, space, and sound staff like Jack. Pitch where you like! Facilities are grand, but tight when busy. Near Settle. A bit noisy sometimes, and fields can get a bit mucky in the wet.

Liked Location, Location, Location. Walkers’ paradise!

Walk along river to Stainforth Force (and Knight Stainforth pub), Stainforth Village (Craven Heifer Pub), Catrigg Force. 30 min walk to Settle (plathora of eateries and more pubs). There is a train service into Settle (also Settle to Carlisle Railway joirney stunning).

We were self contained in a motorhome so didnt use facilites, however the Elsan point and number of taps in bottom field were perfectly adequate for our needs.

Perfect stay … will definitely return.

Disliked Whilst others have commented on not enough facilities for size of site - I’d just choose to go at a quieter time in the day, as the location makes up for it for me.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice and relaxed. Few chemical toilets dotted around which was handy although they're is a shower and toilet block further away. Short walk to the village and some nice walks. Only stayed for 1 night so didn't use the facilities.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Was able to pitch where we wanted. The scenery is breathtaking. The location btilliant. The man was so helpful, asked us on a few occasions if everything was OK. The showers were awesome and clean. We will definitely be back.

Disliked Lots of dogs just running around the site free. Terms and conditions state all dogs on lead on site. Feel a notice reminding people of this would be useful.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was okay for a stop over for a few nights but would not stay again. Close to Settle for extremely good food at the Talbot Arms.

Disliked Shower block too small for the number of people on site. Could have been cleaned more regularly. Grass in showers. Drains blocked and smelt.

This is much too basic a camping site to enjoy.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Good location for exploring the area. Utility room with hot and cold water for washing dishes (and clothes if necessary). Good single shower but hard to find.

Disliked Camping site area is just a normal big field with a single tap and a single portaloo! There are no tables or any other facilities. There are some facilities but they are a distance away at the entrance beside the fixed caravan sites. The big field is not mown so there is long grass and therefore wet feet in the morning when walking across it. The showers in the facilities have a water flow button that has to be pressed every 5 seconds which makes a shower very frustrating. There is a normal shower that is great but you have to look for it. I could not find a recycling bin so brough my recycling home with me.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Convenient location to walk in to town in around 15 mins. New looking toilet/shower facilities. Nice large field so plenty of space to chose your spot to stay

Disliked Unfortunately the whole place looked shabby. Seasonal pitches don’t seem to have standards, unkempt grass areas, no soap in dispensers in the wash rooms and didn’t see to be cleaned daily.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
