The three peaks

  • Family-run farm campsite on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales
  • Lake District National Park and Forest of Bowland 40 minutes’ drive
  • Luxury showers with underfloor heating; dog-friendly site
Not one national park, but two – with a National Landscape area thrown in for good measure. That’s what you get at Dales and Trails, a small, family-run and exclusive-use campsite on the edge of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s also in pole position for excursions to the Lake District National Park or Forest of Bowland National Landscape (both around 40 minutes’ drive). Based on a working farm with views to the Three Peaks near Giggleswick (10 minutes), this rural site is also in a dark-skies area, so make sure you cosy up around the firepit on clear nights for the chance to watch the stars glittering across the heavens. Facilities here have been nicely thought out: guests have access to smart modern shower rooms with underfloor heating (bliss on a brisk Yorkshire day) and luscious toiletries provided. There are many scenic walks straight from the site, so dog owners, bring your pets too and exercise them among the untamed Dales scenery. Cyclists and bikers can relax, happy in the knowledge that there’s dry, secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes, and drivers can charge their electric vehicles too (for a small fee).

What customers say

Brilliant campsite, owners super helpful. Showers are hotel-standard, spotless! Lovely Dales views, peaceful pitches. Great base for exploring, folks'd go back. Can be windy, and you might queue for facilities at peak times.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Level pitches with gorgeous views, facilities that would rival a 5* Hotel and there’s even super fast WiFi on the pitches! Lauren and Charles the owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area with lots of suggestions for walks, things to see and places to visit in the area. This is a real “hidden gem” in the Dales. If you want the stunning views like the Lake District but without the crowds then this is the place to visit.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked We had an amazing stay at Dales and Trails. The site is small and quiet, perfect for a young family. The views are incredible and brilliant from every pitch, we were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunset from ours. The toilets and shower facilities are really modern and clean. The owners are wonderfully kind and let our little boy help feed the lambs, meet the horses and chickens, they were so kind and he was completely mermerised! We felt so welcome and they gave us some amazing tips for local walks and driving routes which didn't let us down. The location was great for Malham and Settle but also so quiet and remote. I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked The views! The views from the touring pitches were stunning.
The hosts were absolutely lovely. They were having some challenges with the electricity to site on our arrival, and they bent over backwards to ensure those arriving had everything they needed, including dashing out to buy everyone bottled water! We couldn’t have asked more of them.
Listening to the lambs and horses on site was a joy and we saw a variety of wildlife on our walk to and from Lawkland (Visiting the Courtyard Dairy and Rind are a must!).
The facilities on site were second to none. The nicest toilet and shower facilities I’ve ever seen on a campsite.

Not a dislike, but just be warned that due to the sites position and elevation the site can get a little gusty!

I’d return in a heartbeat.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Lovely little site with a lovely clean shower/toilet block with two modern bathroom fittings. Our first time out in the tent together and the owners of the site couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely! Our little boy got to feed the baby lambs which was lovely, and we were told of all the amazing places to visit around the site. Gorgeous site, plenty to do, we will certainly be back soon!

Local attractions

The energetic among you will no doubt relish the challenge of hiking the Three Peaks (it’s 10 minutes’ drive to Ingleborough), or try climbing at Castleberg Rock (10 minutes) and fell running directly from the campsite. But there’s plenty of low-octane fun to be had too: have a potter around Malham Cove (25 minutes), or spot the stream trains chugging across sweeping Ribblehead Viaduct (25 minutes). Pretty Dales towns to explore include Hawes (40 minutes), where you can learn about local life in the Dales Countryside Museum and taste award-winning cheeses at Wensleydale Creamery. The market town of Giggleswick and its close neighbour Settle (10 minutes) are both packed with cosy old pubs, while in Skipton (half an hour), you can cruise the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on a day-hire barge. And talking of water, you can be cruising Lake Windermere in 50 minutes, fishing on Stocks Reservoir in the Forest of Bowland in 40 minutes, or following the circular trail to dramatic waterfalls at Ingleton (20 minutes).
