Piggy Back non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Convenient location for Yorkshire Coast. Tidy site with good facilities. We were moved to a more sheltered location on request as we were in a roof tent with a gazebo annex.

Disliked: We would like to see another toilet block towards the furthest areas, though not overly busy during our stay, you may have to wait for showers and toilets during peak periods. Original booking allocation was too exposed for forecast weather (Though we were grateful to be moved - Pitch-Up needs a Roof Tent category as the requirements are often different to Tents or Camper Vans ) Too close to noisy campers (But that was after being moved) Wi-Fi is charged per device, per day - Not had to pay before now

From the manager: Thank you very much for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm in Piggy Back camping site and for taking time to offer your feedback. Piggy Back a new facility which is open from early May to early September. We are glad we could help you with your pitch request so thank you for mentioning this. We are sorry to hear about noisy campers ... our office is open daily so guests can let us know of any queries, possible issues etc, and we always endeavour to help as much as possible. Re: WiFi: we provide WiFi onsite which is payable per device. It is worth noting there is a reasonable to good phone signal at the top of the site (near Piggy Back) for guests to use data. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you can join us another time.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Amazing site! A great family feel to it and very safe and secure. Lots of farm animals too keep little ones occupied plus wildlife, we saw a hare and an owl in the evenings! Lovely clean facilities. We would love to return next summer

Disliked: There is no signal at all, so even just to check the weather forecast and plan your day if it's raining was difficult. The ladies changing rooms would benefit from a little stool to put your clothes inside the cubicle.

Thank you also for your other feedback, we always appreciate customer feedback. We hope you can join us again soon.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Cleanliness of site. Family friendly, no noise at night. Good location.

Disliked: Food at the Hive expensive. Menu said burger included chips but was extra £13 for burger and chips take away is quite expensive. Could do with a couple more bins as these were full. Also a dog exercising field would be good.

From the manager: Hello there and thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write your review. We appreciate your comments about the food. The food is freshly prepared onsite by our team and if any of our guests feel there is perhaps an error in the charging, then our office and The Hive staff would be happy to assist once the issue is raised with them. We are working farm and as such we have our beautiful farm walks (three in total). Due to livestock dogs do need to be on leads, however there are several dog friendly beaches close by which are suitable for pooches. We hope you enjoyed your stay overall and thank you again for joining us.

From the manager: Hello there and thank you so much for joining us here at Humble Be Farm. Thank you for your positive comments about your experience here at Humble Bee Farm. We are delighted to read that your daughter enjoyed the farmyard gang and that you felt safe and secure. In answer to your other comments: Our office is open daily from 9am so guests can certainly pop in and let us know if they have any feedback etc. We are always endeavour to help where possible. The ground is chalk based here and there is a note in the relevent section of the FAQs to this effect; we also have extra tent pegs available to purchase in our onsite shop/reception. The WiFi is avail for those who would like to use it and a small fee applies; however there is a good phone signal at the top of the site for most if not all networks. We thank you again for your feedback, from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Wonderful place to stay with young children. Especially enjoyed the morning feeding with the farmer where the children get a chance to feed some of the animals. Facilities very good, hot showers clean toilets and the happy hour at the cafe was a lovely touch.

Disliked: The new camping field could do with a larger bin for the rubbish. Other than that it was great.

From the manager: Hi there many thanks for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm and in Piggy Back Field. Thank you for your lovely comments about Farmer Percy and the farmyard gang. Thank you for your feedback about the refuse bin, all comments are welcome. We hope you can join us again soon.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This was our first family camping holiday and it was better than we had expected! Humble Bee Farm is welcoming for all the family, meeting Farmer Percy in the mornings to feed the animals around the farm was the highlight for our three young children. The Hive cafe serve delicious breakfasts and the facilities were regularly cleaned to a high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we can’t wait to visit again, for longer next time!

Big Chief wigwam

Liked: Great location, scenery was fantastic and the farm setting was lovely. We used it mostly as a base to visit Flamborough and Filey. Nice quiet site and my kids got along well with the others on the playing field which is great for footy. Farm trails are nice, me and my youngest had a great stroll one evening. Services are great, the toilets and showers are really clean, hot showers, great facilities! Also really enjoyed walking the pony with the kids down the Piggy Back Trail (which is a nice free activity).

Disliked: Accommodation was a little more basic than we'd anticipated and the mattresses were very uncomfortable (particularly the ones that you put in the middle over the coffee table). We ordered pizza for the last day, I think we paid £35 for two pizzas, garlic bread and two cheesy chips. They had been sat in a pile with other orders prior to collection and they were all stone cold - really disappointed. We just binned majority of it and cracked on. We also saw the chef have a good pick of his ear in the kitchen and not wash his hands.... Not the sites fault but there is zero signal on site and they charge £4 per device for 24 hours if you want wifi - even then, the connection isn't great.

From the manager: Thank you very much for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm for your camping trip. We are well-placed for exploring the area, including all the Yorkshire Coast resorts. As you mention, our site includes a sports field, a small play area, an indoor tractor play area, plenty of walks, Farmer Percy Club and more. Thank you for mentioning the clean toilet and shower facilities which our guests enjoy; these are checked and cleaned on a regular basis. The accommodation you booked was a standard cabin (called a big chief) which includes mattresses, toaster, kettle, fridge and microwave along with a storage area, a coffee table, heating, lighting, lockable door, and access to an outdoor bbq and firepit. There is also a parking space provided along with free access to all onsite facilities. While this cabin is the standard option there are options for fully ensuite cabins too. These include our deluxe cabins with hot tubs, our premium lodge with hot tubs, yurts, and camping. We also have three luxury holiday cottages for guests to enjoy. We appreciate your food order and your feedback about this aspect of your stay. Guests pre-order their food at an agreed timeslot, and our catering team prepare those pizzas ready for collection at this time. If not collected then the pizzas are placed on the top of the pizza oven. If anyone feels their food isn’t hot enough etc, then we are more than happy, if we are informed, to prepare them again. As with any feedback, we are happy to receive and it and we will go the extra mile to resolve problems if we can. As you mention, there isn’t a phone signal on the main site (there never has been) and WiFi is an option on a paid-for basis. The chargeable WiFi is mentioned on our listings so guests are aware. We are in stunning rural location and the WiFi is provided for guests to use if they wish. There is also a good 4G signal at the top of the site which many of our guests use. Thank you again for joining us and for taking time to offer your feedback.

Deluxe wigwam (hot tub)

Liked: This is the third time that my friend and I have visited Humble Bee Farm. As usual the stay was amazing. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. My friend struggles with anxiety and always feels relaxed at the farm. The hot tub was amazing and very private. The staff could not have been more helpful. We will continue to visit the farm at every opportunity. Excellent job guys, thank you so much for making our stay such a lovely experience.

Disliked: Nothing at all to dislike.

Local attractions

Countryside, coast, beaches, forests, moors and family days out… all ages and tastes are easily sorted around here. Make for the Yorkshire coast as a first stop, to Scarborough 20 minutes’ drive away for Scarborough Castle, SEA LIFE Scarborough, the seaside amusements and picking up fresh seafood at the harbour fish market. From Scarborough, head north to Whitby (35 minutes, or about 50 from the farm) for its famed abbey (and fish and chips), or the same distance in the other direction for spotting the thousands of seabirds clustered around Flamborough Head. There’s much to see inland too, such as Eden Camp at Malton (30 minutes), recreating the sights, sounds – and smells – of World War II; woodland hikes at Dalby Forest, also 30 minutes away, and seeing the splendour of the stately home Castle Howard (40 minutes). Or have a puff on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on its spectacularly scenic route from Pickering (40 minutes’ drive) across the moors to Whitby.
