Cayton Village Experience Freedom Glamping: Enjoy al fresco dining outside your yurt

General

  • Pet-friendly holiday park on the North Yorkshire coast
  • A 10-minute walk from Cayton Bay and three miles from Scarborough
  • Well-stocked on-site shop, kids' playground, playing field and maze

Canines will go barking mad for Cayton Village Experience Freedom Glamping. Not only is this peaceful North Yorkshire park a mere ten-minute walkie from dog-friendly Cayton Bay, there’s a whopping four-acre dog walking area on site – and it’s floodlit so you can take the mutt to sniff around any time of day or night. That’s worth several woofs.

Thinking ‘pffft to the pooch, what about us campers and caravanners’? We can report that this Scarborough site is savvy for humanoids of all sizes too. It’s three miles from the sands of Scarborough, four from Filey and 14 from Bridlington, but placed neatly and secludedly in the countryside so those seeking peace can find it (those seeking vampires can find them too: Whitby is within 45 minutes’ drive. Ulp.)

Cayton Village is a beautifully maintained site – take a squint at the site pics – backed by Cayton Village Church and niftily designed to blend in with its natural surroundings, with acres of space for travellers with tourers, motorhomes or tents (really, take a squint at the site pics).

The park has a well-stocked shop and an up to date and roomy kids’ playground. To keep non-parents happy, the playground closes at 8pm (6pm early and late season); to keep parents happy, there’s a huge playing field – and maze – with loads of room for ball games, cycling and general running around until collapse.

Best of all for those who feel driven mad with driving: buses to Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington run right from the Cayton Village Experience Freedom Glamping entrance.

The site was beautiful and amazing facilities.

Particularly liked the family bathroom with bath and seat, separate shower and large changing area with toilet and sink. This I thought would be perfect for any parent traveling alone with a child or children.

Great staff in the reception and cleaners.

The location is perfect to park up and catch the bus, directly out of the front of site, to Cayton sea front, Scarborough, Bridlington, Filey or Whitby... Cayton bay has a long slope down to beach but if you can manage this, its well worth it!

We'll done Cayton Bay - we will be back! 😁😁

Clean open space, the whole arrival experience was very easy waited less than two minutes for keys. The pod itself was excellent a little small for a family of 4 but only using it as some where to sleep, the pod was absolutely fantastic all mod cons the bathroom was the best I've seen in a long while. Overall definitely a 5 star place to stay if your camping, glamping or Caravanning.

We had a brilliant time. The cabin was perfect for the 2 of us and with the double doors open it felt like we were outside all the time. perfect. I think it would be perfect for a young family with up to 2 children as the double bed can be packed away neatly freeing up the room. Even the bunk bed was very comfortable I did choose to sleep up there myself as my son has a bit of issue with hights.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The cabin was clean and perfectly functional. Everything you would need is there. In the little kitchen hob, microwave, kettle and toaster. Fridge with a small but well functioning freezer compartment.
Lots of clever storage even in the bathroom.
Wi-Fi for my son so he could spend his evening playing.
I loved our private outdoor space compete with a table and chairs, parasol too.
everything clean and looks brand new.
Thursday a pizza van arrived to reception at 4pm then on Saturday there were a fish and chips van. make sure you order early tho...
There is a little shop on site just in case also there is a play area for children but I think they are quire safe running around the site I saw lots of children on their bikes going around enjoying themselves - I am from London where this sort of freedom is not given...
    Absolutely loved the place.
The beach near by is lovely and not so busy although the the weather was good when we stayed. The beach is about half a mile away and there is a foot path all the way from the site. Buses stop just outside the site as well if you don't fancy walking or want to go to Scarborough.

The pod accommodation was reasonable, cosy and spacious enough for a family of 4 with young children. It was also good to have a trolley to take luggage from the car to the pod. The surroundings were pleasant and good to have a low speed limit and one way system around the site.

    Disliked:

Even though there was adequate space outside our pod our 2 children to have a kick of their football back and forward, they were advised that they could not do this due to the policy of No Ball Games on the premises, however, on the next evening another couple of resident holidaymakers came to that exact spot to play with their frisbee which is by far, more dangerous and risky to cause damage than a football.

Local attractions

All the highlights of North Yorkshire’s coast, countryside and history are within easy reach, from the 900 year old harbour at Bridlington to roaming the North York Moors National Park. Kids are well connected too in this part of the world, with seaside amusements, farm parks, centres like Scarborough’s Sea Life and theme/amusement parks like Flamingo Land at Malton and Leisure World at Bridlington.

The nearest beach to Cayton Village is Cayton Bay, just a scramble down the rocks; pick up snacks and beach bits and bobs at the small hut, or go rockpooling in one of the many rocky hollows. Most guests sally forth to Scarborough next, three miles from Cayton Village. Britain’s first seaside resort has moved well beyond its ‘Kiss me Quick’ hat days and now has an open air theatre, an acclaimed art gallery, the Rotunda Museum and festivals/events all year round. Stroll along North or South beach, both viewable from the headland where you can also scramble around spectacular Scarborough Castle.

Walk the four miles to Filey along the Cleveland Way for some of the best scenery you’ll see anywhere, and slip down to the five miles of sand at Filey Bay, or take the bus to other North Yorkshire seaside destinations: the cobbled streets of fishing village Robin Hood’s Bay; beautiful Bridlington’s miles of beaches and promenade; and fossil hunting at Runswick Bay, five miles from Whitby.

The Filey Brigg cliffs, edging the bay, are a haven for seabirds and other wildlife – if you’re a birdwatcher, the North Yorkshire coast is one of the prime locales in the land. Nearby Flamborough Head, and Bempton Cliffs its north, are home to the only gannet colony on the UK mainland (a screeching 200,000 of them live here in summer); watch them on CCTV or from the clifftop viewpoints.

Inland, take a puff from Pickering to Whitby on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, delve into Dalby Forest, or stride moodily across the moors; the North Moors National Park is teeming with things to do, from climbing cliffs to supping a pint in one of its many traditional village pubs.
