  • Family-run North Yorkshire site on the banks of the Swale river
  • Peaceful location four miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales
  • On-site river fishing; pubs and shops within five minutes' drive
One look at the green riverside location at Brompton Caravan Park and it shouldn’t be hard to understand why this place is just as suitable for family outings as it is for a couple's getaway. On the banks of the pretty Swale river, this peaceful family-run North Yorkshire site is surrounded by scenic countryside for laidback strolls. Get your rods at the ready, too, as guests are very welcome to unwind by fishing on the banks of the Swale. The site is handily placed between Richmond and Brompton on Swale, two Yorkshire locations with characterful pubs and restaurants. Market towns, historic properties, waterfalls, museums and walking trails are all within a short drive of the site, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise once you spot that it’s only four miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and around 20 miles from the North Pennines National Landscape. Which will you track down first: waterfalls or historic sites? For the former, Richmond Falls (10 minutes’ drive away) is one of the most popular walks in the Richmond area – only three miles long – or you could head to the three waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls (35 minutes’ drive away), a little way into the Yorkshire Dales. For historic sites, you only need to head to Richmond to browse the Green Howards Museum or catch a show at Georgian Theatre Royal, built in 1788. Raby Castle and Newby Hall are within a 35-minute drive of the site, the first with a 200-acre deer park and a 14th-century castle, and the second with a miniature steam train that’s sure to make the kids shout 'choo-choo'.

What customers say

This spotless site boasts a charming riverside spot, perfect for exploring Richmond. Reviewers loved the tidy pods, showers with ample hot water, and the helpful staff. Dog walkers, a takeaway, and a shop were a bonus. Pitches were okay, though some wished for more space. WiFi was a bit hit-and-miss.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Good size showers. Clean facilities.
Lovely site with great access to the river swale and local areas.
Staff very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Lights in the toilet block at night, went off mid shower, needs longer on the PIR.
Shower cubicles need a fold-down seat or bench, as nowhere for clothes and floor is wet.

Offline Pitches electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely site, very clean and well looked after! Friendly staff - we arrived late (Sorry!!) due to the motorway being closed and the phone line wasn’t working to contact them, we turned up and called the number on the door and they answered no problem and came to check us in. Our 2 and 3yo loved the park even though it was aimed more at older children. With a bit of help they could use the slide and climbing frame. There are steps down to the river, I imagine this would be lovely in summer!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked This campsite exceeded expectations in every way. The location is truly spectacular, with beautiful river views and meticulously maintained grounds. Facilities are excellent – the washrooms are pristine, multiple Elson points and waste disposal areas ensure convenience, the games room and play area provides entertainment for children. An on-site shop adds further practicality for any forgotten items. Exceptional value for money, making this a thoroughly deserving 5-star stay.

Local attractions

There are museums for all tastes in North Yorkshire. The Bowes Museum (half an hour's drive) has a huge collection of art and sculptures, as well as intricate clothes and shoes from the 17th to 20th centuries. The French château-style building is easy on the eyes, making parkland strolls a particularly fine idea too. Make your way to Beamish - The Living Museum of the North (50 minutes) to see old electric trams, a pit village and other reconstructions from 1900s life in the north of England. York may be a little further away (an hour and five minutes), but it also has lots of attractions, including the popular Jorvik Viking Centre and the historic Shambles. Waterfalls like High Force Waterfall (55 minutes) and Cotter Force will make your camera roll extra pretty. If you'd also like to snap some pics of castles and country houses, try Bolton Castle (25 minutes), where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned, or Harewood House (55 minutes).
