  • Pretty pop-up site on a working family farm in the Yorkshire Dales
  • A 10-minute drive to Middleham gallops; 15 minutes to Aysgarth Falls
  • Forbidden Corner, local pub and River Cover within walking distance
If the combination of a family farm and a backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales National Park sounds like just the right mix for your break, you’ll likely be most happy with the setup at Coverdale Camping. This pop-up site is in a quiet and spacious field that’s part of a working farm in the village of Melmerby, about 10 minutes’ drive from Leyburn and not far from the main roads for easy access. It’s within the boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park too, sandwiched between Bishopdale, Nidderdale and Wharfedale, with lovely views across Coverdale to Colburn, West Scrafton and Roova Crag. All of this means, of course, that this is a particularly fine area for walks and bike rides, including those around Pen Hill (three miles away) and along the banks of the River Cover, which meanders close by. It’s also an intriguing area for folk who like horses: you can saddle up for treks 25 minutes’ drive away in Masham, or take a trip to Middleham (10 minutes’ drive) to see the horses being exercised on the high and low gallops each morning. Barbecues are allowed on site here if you’re after an outdoor meal, but it’s also easy to get out to local eateries if you prefer: the nearest pub is 15 minutes’ walk away and there’s a smart restaurant a couple of miles away too (close to the Forbidden Corner attraction, which is well worth a look…) Facilities are on the simple side at this peaceful farm but you’ll have access to portable toilets in the field.
