  • Well-maintained Yorkshire campsite with clifftop views
  • Withernsea five minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Spurn Point
  • Heated shower block; secure site with CCTV
Set in an impressively peaceful spot just a short distance from the Yorkshire coast, Hollym Airfield Caravan and Camping is a laidback site in a scenic clifftop location. With spacious grass pitches and lots of fine views, this family-friendly site – where well-behaved dogs are also welcome to come and join you on your travels – is about a mile and a half from the local town of Withernsea and 40 minutes' drive from Hull. The nearest beach is roughly 10 minutes away on foot, and if you keep heading along the shore (when the tide is out) you'll soon reach the town centre (25 minutes from base), where you can access its handy shops, supermarkets, promenade and leisure centre. Hollym Airfield Caravan and Camping is a family-run business with well-maintained amenities, including a washing-up area, a water refill point, a grey water disposal point, CCTV for extra security and a heated toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. After a day of long exploring, you could light up a barbecue by your pitch, explore the various eateries on offer in Withernsea or tuck into a traditional fish and chips there or in other coastal spots such as Hornsea (35 minutes) or Bridlington (an hour).

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice view very clean aswell.

Disliked: Nothing much around to do. Far too windy nightmare when putting a tent up.

From the manager: I totally disagree with this review they tried putting a tent up and couldn’t it was a cheap rubbish tent. They couldn’t put it up and left I told them they could come back the next day to try but they didn’t bother. They didn’t stay with us so why do we get a low review when they didn’t stay No one else had any trouble putting there good quality tents up.

Would stay again but would check the wind forecast before booking.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely site with beautiful views. Facilities were very clean and staff friendly. Very spacious pitch.

They have the option to purchase items while on site (Eggs, Charcoal, kits and planes with the option to hire a wind break & fire pit for the weekend

Disliked: It can get very windy, unfortunately we picked a weekend where the wind was in the 30kmh so made the decision to leave a day early just to protect our tent.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: A well-kept campsite with full sanitary facilities (toilets, showers, a place to draw clean water, a place with hot water where you can wash dishes or get rid of chemical waste, e.g. from a camper van). The last time I visited this camping site was a year ago and I thought it couldn't get any better, I was wrong! I was very positively surprised by the improvements that have been introduced at the campsite, e.g. a refrigerator where you can store your things, a charging point without additional fees (I saw that most people charged their batteries there). An additional advantage is the reception where you can buy many things, from toys for your children to takeaway coffee (Dolce Gusto), and if you feel like having scrambled eggs, you will get them across the street. fresh eggs :) I heartily recommend it! P.S. I forgot to add the wonderful view of the sea, which is a few steps away from you!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Site has everything we needed, little one loved making a fire in the fire pit (available to rent) and we enjoyed seeing the horses in the next field.

Toilets/shower cubicles are clean and tidy and there are phone charging points and a fridge freezer available if needed 😀

We like the no music/noise after 10.30 policy here and would all stay again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Absolutely spotless facilities. Great location.

Disliked: Price of pitch for 1 adult, 1 bicycle and a backpacking 1 man tent was the same as for a caravan, car and awning.

From the manager: Hi thanks for the review pleased you liked our site….the pricing structure is based price per unit not the size of unit. We basically charge 1 unit per 2 persons based on shower and toilet facilities. Any more persons Werner it be adults or children are £3 per person per day We obviously charge more for electric hook up. But price goes on unit. We could mark out all pitched at a 6 metre size but you would still be one unit per pitch. It was a pleasure meeting you. Enjoy your travels around the uk on your bike. 😊

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet site with amazing views of the sea over the cliffs. There is access to the beach but unfortunately due to my disability I couldn’t access it. Hubby and our pet loved it though. I liked that we could choose where to park on the grassed areas and offered an extra cable to do so. Loved the space and privacy between the motorhomes not on top of each other. The hosts were great with a warm welcome and information leaflet. They even came to the rescue within minutes when I accidentally overloaded the electrics. Facilities lovely and clean.

Disliked: access to beach

Local attractions

History and heritage abound around here: you're about five minutes' drive from such spots as RAF Holmpton bunker or Withernsea's well-maintained lighthouse museum, where you can learn about the area's mariners and airfarers of yesteryear. There are several more museums to explore in Hull (40 minutes), including Wilberforce House, where you can find out more about abolitionist and MP William Wilberforce, Kingston upon Hull's most celebrated son. Birdwatchers should pack some sturdy footwear, some binoculars and a thermos flask and head to Spurn Point (20 minutes), a spectacular nature reserve that extends for well over a mile into the North Sea. Seabirds also flock to Flamborough Head (an hour), just north of Bridlington, which is well worth visiting if you don't mind the drive. Brought kids who'll need to be kept entertained? Take them for a spin around the animal enclosures at Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo (35 minutes), or alternatively pack plenty of spare change and dispatch them to the arcades in Withernsea and Hornsea.
