  • A 12-acre wildlife haven under 10 minutes’ drive from Pocklington
  • A 20-minute drive from York and half an hour from Castle Howard
  • Alpaca walks available; in a good stargazing area
It's lovely and remote at The Darling Woods Of May, a peaceful site for families and couples only within 12 acres of wild woodland, wildflower meadows and alpaca paddocks in East Yorkshire. With wide spacing and no cars permitted on the pitches, your stay should feel nice and private. First, though, park in the car park two minutes' walk away and grab a big, green trolley to easily transport your gear onto the site. This wildlife haven is on a small working alpaca farm 20 minutes' drive away from historic York, a nice city for sightseeing, shopping or other everyday activities. For all your eating out and shopping needs, it's less than a 10-minute drive from the beautiful market town of Pocklington. It’s also on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, where there are some very nice walks to go on and, of course, stunning scenery to soak in. Home to friendly alpacas, The Darling Woods Of May can arrange alpaca walks and experiences for an additional fee (just note that dogs aren’t allowed due to their presence). Being quite remote, the farm is an excellent spot for stargazing. Should you want to take something home to remember your trip by, there's also a small gift shop on site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Just the most beautiful stay. Great to have the picnic tables next to the pitches.
Beautiful site that is well kept but also wild enough for you to feel as close to nature as possible with plumbing!
The Alpacas are obviously stars of the show but Sophie and Simon were also very lovely!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: The site is beautiful, clearly a lot of care and thought has been put into the campsite by the owners. Plenty of space per pitch, not over crowded, lovely clean facilities, beautiful woodland surroundings, happy alpacas in the next field. Loads of space to kids to explore, have fun and make new friends and memories.

We had a really great time on an alpaca walk on the final day. The owners were so friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the alpacas and area. This made my daughter and niece have a special and memorable experience.

Would definitely recommend this lovely campsite ❤️ thank you

Liked: Everything! This is such a gorgeous campsite and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Sophie and Simon were very welcoming and friendly. The pitches are spaced out nicely with lovely views all around, especially in the evening for sunset. It is very dark at night and perfect for stargazing.

The toilets are super clean, and the shower was great! The little shop in reception has lots of lovely little gifts - we couldn’t resist the alpaca teddies! Our boys enjoyed exploring the woodland area - adding to a den that they found. Before we left we did the Alpaca meet and greet. What a fantastic experience! It was really interesting and we all had plenty of time to feed and interact with the adorable alpacas. We will definitely be returning here and recommending it to everyone! Thank you ☺️

Disliked: Nothing!!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (wild)

Liked: Friendly and extremely peaceful. On arrival I was met by a lovey lady who took time out to tell me where was nice to eat. The woodland walk around the camp was beautiful, with alpacas to admire.
It was just me (dad) and my daughter this time, but will definitely come back with the rest of my family to this most beautiful, peaceful and tranquil campsite.

Simple yet peaceful.

Disliked: Nothing at all.
