  • Dog-friendly working farm site surrounded by the Suffolk countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from the nearest beach; 40 minutes from Sutton Hoo
  • Communal freezer on site; firepits and barbecues permitted; pub nearby
Plant yourself down in the grassy paddocks at Low Farm Camping… surrounded by the Suffolk countryside, this rural retreat is a 25-minute drive from the coast and accompanied by all the noises, animals, scents and vehicles of a working farm. From here, take off into the countryside or hunker down for a seaside-inspired afternoon at one of several bays within driving distance of the site, including Dunwich Beach (25 minutes’ drive), Walberswick Beach (half an hour) or Southwold (half an hour). Keep your drinks cool using the communal freezer on site for ice block freezing. On the other hand, sort yourself out with a toasty firepit or barbecue (as long as it's not the disposal type) later in the evening. Other facilities around the site are kept relatively straightforward and include water and portable toilets. When a meal out is on your mind, Huntingfield’s village pub is under five minutes’ drive away or a 20-minute walk if you’re planning on putting away a few pints of real ale. The village is also home to the Saint Mary the Virgin Huntingfield church and its iconic painted ceiling, so plot in a visit earlier in the day. Tearooms and pubs are a common sight in many of the surrounding Suffolk villages, so conveniently, there’s another pub 10 minutes’ drive away with a large garden and a 16th-century thatched roof. There’s a food shop next door where you can grab any basics you need and more shops, cafés, tearooms, playgrounds and a library and museum in Halesworth, 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

Walk the walls and count the Tudor-age chimneys at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes' drive). Then take another deep dive into history at the Sutton Hoo (40 minutes), which has sculptures, trails and exhibitions around an Anglo-Saxon burial site. Meet the resident rare-breed horses, muck around in the playground or jump on a tractor ride at The Suffolk Punch Trust (45 minutes). Then, jump in for more farm animals and rides at Easton Farm Park (30 minutes). If you fancy throwing some pulse-raising rides into the mix, Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (55 minutes) has rollercoasters and rocking ships, plus sea lions and bird shows. Craving the beach? Unwind on the sand and shingles in Aldeburgh (half an hour), go fishing at Thorpeness Beach (35 minutes) or visit the coastal nature reserve at Orford (35 minutes). And in Lowestoft (45 minutes), play on the pier or take some downtime on Pakefield Beach (40 minutes). Break into the city in Norwich (an hour) for a nice mix of the medieval with the contemporary and a lively arts scene. Elsewhere, Ipswich's (50 minutes) Tudor buildings and splendid waterfront restaurants might please.
