  • Friendly, simple site half a mile from pubs in the village of Barrow
  • In the grounds of a fitness centre with a gym on site
  • On-site café and adults-only bar; archery and footgolf on site
Ready for action? Fab four-acre Church View Campsite is attached to a well-established fitness centre and event space in the little village of Barrow, 15 minutes’ drive from Bury St Edmunds. Fitness fans, active types and those who just want to have a chuckle at their mates trying to scale sizeable obstacles should all have a whale of a time at this place. The on-site gym’s available to guests on a pay as you go basis; if you’d rather work out in the open, drop in next door to the assault course at The Playground, fire a few arrows at the archery club or wander up the road to the local riding stables. There are escape rooms and a miniature golf course should you fancy something different too. After all this activity, it's worth bearing in mind that (as long as you’re not on some sort of self-inflicted bootcamp) you can reward your efforts with something tasty from the chippy, café or pubs 10 minutes’ stroll away. The site also has its very own bar and café for even easier eats. Or if it’s all too much, just stay put for an evening’s cookout over a barbecue (sometimes with a spectacular sunset to boot – fingers crossed). There's also a small on-site licensed café-bar serving snacks and light bites, with a lovely bamboo garden area where you can watch the world go by with a pint or some coffee and cake.

What customers say

Spacious, tranquil pitches, great facilities for families, and brilliant staff. Close to pubs and village. Facilities are "rustic" but clean. Lovely walks nearby. Site can be busier during events.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (solo, no pets, no cars)

Liked Stayed here for a night during a bicycle trip - nice flat pitch, plenty of info before the night and lots of activities on site. Very basic toilets which I don't mind and clear rules which I appreciate. Quick bike ride into the village where there's a couple of decent shops, which was a bit of a godsend for me after a long ride.

Electric grass pitch (water hook-up)

Liked The staff were all lovely and very helpful
There's was so much on site to do....
We enjoyed the Escape room, Archery, crazy Golf and Kick golf.

Disliked Although warned of one day where there was likely to be a power cut. There were several other unexpected ones over night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review and we are glad you enjoyed all the activities.
The planned power cut didn't actually materialize but we wanted to make sure everyone was prepared.
The over night ones were local general unplanned power cuts involving main overhead power lines in the area and nothing to do with the site at all.

Overall a nice site but needs better washing facilities.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice site, large flat pitches, convenient location, quiet, two pubs with food and three supermarket type shops for provisions and a chippy in the village nearby in walking distance.

Disliked Lack of washing facilities (e.g. for just a wash, cleaning teeth, shaving etc.) other than a outdoor hand basin in the toilet area or one in a shower cubicle in the same area - obviously not available if the shower was in use. Fridge/freezer erratic so could not rely on it to freeze cool-box blocks. A phone charging facility would be useful.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review and feedback.
We continually improve our facilities and will explore adding more wash facilities. There were a couple of other places that wash facilities could be found on site other than those mentioned here.
We do also now have phone charging facilities and will ensure this is mentioned in the welcome info.

Electric grass pitch (large, water hook-up)

Liked Pitches are massive, we have stayed twice now, once on the sunset field and the pitches are great.
Picnic benches on every pitch, loads of room too.
I figured out the showers pretty quick and there was always hot water available.
Toilets were always clean and plenty of loo roll.
It was very very hot, but there was a lovely breeze across the field.
Bury St Edmunds is very close, Thetford forest too and plenty of military aircraft overhead.
Highly recommend.

Disliked A lot of cars arrived on our last day quite early and woke me up, as there was a running event but thats a me thing not the campsite.

Electric grass pitch (water hook-up)

Liked Friendly staff, facilities were kept clean. Enough space around pitches. People camping here was friendly

Disliked More freezer space that work would be better

From the manager: Thanks for the review
With the hot weather we have had recently the fridges and freezers have struggled a bit but are needed more than ever, so that's something we will look into improving where possible.

Disliked Floor in wetroom needs a non slip mat, staff informed and took on feedback.
Cafe/food limited hours
Could do with a ramp into wetroom

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So glad you had a good stay with us.
We do have a ramp for the wet room and we also now have a non slip mat that can be requested.
We would love to have the cafe open longer but have to run with the times when it is viable to staff it.
For info to others. The cafe is open each Friday and Saturday evening through the season plus Saturday and Sunday mornings. Then when we get to school holidays there will be open hours on Thursdays, Mondays and Sunday evenings and morning. No hot food on a Tuesday or Wednesday

Local attractions

Up for a challenge? Go for a zip through the trees on the canopy trails at Go Ape, half an hour away by car. If that’s not really your style, perhaps trot up the road from the site to Barrow Hall Stables for riding lessons, countryside hacks and summer-hols activity days that should please pony-mad nippers. Want to see the gee-gees going full pelt? The famed racecourse at Newmarket is a 15-minute drive away. Too much adrenaline? Calmer times are around too – perhaps in the cafés, gardens and abbey of Bury St Edmunds, or with a wander through the stunning gardens at Ickworth (even if you’re not usually one for a stately home, this one’s worth a visit – if only to marvel at its perfectly round Georgian rotunda building). Both are about 15 minutes away by car. The pretty half-timbered houses of Lavenham (half an hour away) are worth a look too.
