  • Friendly, simple site half a mile from pubs in the village of Barrow
  • In the grounds of a fitness centre with a gym on site
  • On-site café and adults-only bar; archery and footgolf on site
Ready for action? Fab four-acre Church View Campsite is attached to a well-established fitness centre and event space in the little village of Barrow, 15 minutes’ drive from Bury St Edmunds. Fitness fans, active types and those who just want to have a chuckle at their mates trying to scale sizeable obstacles should all have a whale of a time at this place. The on-site gym is available to guests on a pay-as-you-go basis; if you’d rather work out in the open, fire a few arrows at the archery club, try out some footgolf or wander up the road to the local riding stables. There are escape rooms and a miniature golf course, should you fancy something different too. After all this activity, it's worth bearing in mind that (as long as you’re not on some sort of self-inflicted bootcamp) you can reward your efforts with something tasty at the on-site café, which serves sourdough pizza, burgers, loaded fries and other tasty bits. The site also has its very own adults-only bar with a rooftop area for views. Or if it’s all too much, just stay put for an evening’s cookout over a barbecue (sometimes with a spectacular sunset to boot – fingers crossed).

What customers say

This site has big pitches & friendly folk. Lots to do for families: play park & small animals. Facilities are decent, a bit basic for some, but showers are sorted. Handy for shops. Events can make it busier now and then.

Electric grass pitch (water hook-up)

Liked Location was great..cafe food was great, friendly staff.. great amenities.. foot golf etc

Disliked Young children up at 7.30 am on a Sunday morning kicking a football .. using my truck and the picnic table as a goal....not the children's fault... the parents
Pitches are large but tight to reverse park a caravan without driving over neighbouring pitches... use a motor mover..

From the manager: Thanks for the review and we hope to see you again.
Our wardens are always around and would be happy to help with any problems especially where other guests behaviour impacts your stay.
Our quiet times are from 10.30pm - 8am so we definitely would have had a word with the children or parents had we seen them playing so early near to the pitches.

Electric grass pitch (large, water hook-up)

Liked Pitch sizes and play park

Disliked Facilities are not in good shape. Park looks run down and uninviting.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry you felt we were uninviting. We have recently refurbished several of our showers for both ladies and gents to a good standard and have plenty of facilities to choose from.

Emma N. 1 review

Electric grass pitch (large, water hook-up)

Liked The pitch size

Disliked The fact we woke up in the morning and the peaceful campsite turned into a car park with people turning up for a marathon. People were walking over the pitches and using the benches not what we expected as there was no warnings. Could have sent an email to notify the campers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Emma
I am sorry you weren't informed of the running event. This does usually happen and we very rarely get complaints about it. The runners are usually considerate of the campers. I know that our wardens did try to catch you several times on arrival day, as is our practice to meet and greet everyone we can. They were not able to see you on this occasion but we do advise guests of the campsite phone number and we are available for any issues or questions at any time. I will ensure that the running events are noted in the future.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Good sized site with not too many people even when it was full on a bank holiday, decent space between pitches for some privacy.
Good selection of activities directly on site to help keep kids entertained.
Most of all the staff were fantastic - very friendly and helpful; took the time to walk around and say hi on check in day; much appreciated

Electric grass pitch

Liked This site well situated with a 15 minute walk into the village which has several shops and a good pub. The site is in a rural location with a a large fitness centre attached and small cafe. Toilets and showers are in a mixture of buildings but where all clean and tidy. There are several small animal pens with chickens rabbits and guinea pigs for children to look at. Plus a mini putting course . Bus routes into bury st Edmunds can be caught in the village
Overall a good experience

From the manager: Thanks for the review
Signage is always ongoing and some of ours is at ground level which with the recent rain maybe the grass had grown to obscure a little.

Electric grass pitch (water hook-up)

Liked Spacious pitches electric & water but water was not available due to leak.

Disliked Men’s shower very good women’s shower had a problem.
Site was very busy on one day due to running club using site & facilities.
Having said this we would return again.
Excellent pub a short walk away.

From the manager: Ladies shower problem now fully resolved.
The running events are approx. one weekend a month, they are not usually a problem but can make things a little busier.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Visited during a quiet period in April and was offered a grass pitch away from facilities to nearer them and the play area for the children. Can't comment on cafe because didn't use it.

Disliked Nothing.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We will always try to offer the best pitch available to suit the individual needs and are very happy for guest to make contact on arrival if they would prefer an alternative pitch.

Local attractions

Up for a challenge? Go for a zip through the trees on the canopy trails at Go Ape, half an hour away by car. If that’s not really your style, perhaps trot up the road from the site to Barrow Hall Stables for riding lessons, countryside hacks and summer-hols activity days that should please pony-mad nippers. Want to see the gee-gees going full pelt? The famed racecourse at Newmarket is a 15-minute drive away. Too much adrenaline? Calmer times are around too – perhaps in the cafés, gardens and abbey of Bury St Edmunds, or with a wander through the stunning gardens at Ickworth (even if you’re not usually one for a stately home, this one’s worth a visit – if only to marvel at its perfectly round Georgian rotunda building). Both are about 15 minutes away by car. The pretty half-timbered houses of Lavenham (half an hour away) are worth a look too.
