Dog-friendly pitches on a fully-fenced meadow

  • Dog-friendly farm site a mile from the centre of Wymondham
  • A 20-minute drive from Norwich; half an hour from the Norfolk Broads
  • Café, farm walks, dog exercise and canine facilities on site
Make friends with pygmy goats, see the alpacas and llamas, and feed ducks (or lambs if you’re here at the right time)… once you’ve met the whole gang at Walnut Tree Meadow Camping, it’s time to sit back and get set for one of the stunning sunsets that often dazzle guests. There’s much to appreciate at this relaxed getaway spot, especially for folk travelling with a dog… Just off the Rebellion Way cycle route, this rural Norfolk site is around five minutes’ drive from the centre of Wymondham and 20 minutes from Norwich (with easy access via the nearby A11). As it’s in the grounds of a canine business, the facilities for canines on holiday are particularly fine: agility, hydrotherapy, canine massage or dog swimming are among the offerings. Facilities on site include a café (dog-friendly, of course), toilets and a washing-up area with hot water. Picnic benches are available and barbecues or firepits are permitted off the ground. Pitches have no boundaries, so lay claim to as much space as you wish; wherever you pick, you’ll have access to a large hot shower or a second shower and indoor toilet behind the café.

A great spot for dogs, with plenty of space and top-notch facilities like secure fields and a dog pool. Guests rave about the friendly owners, clean amenities, and the cafe. Mostly peaceful, though some heard distant noise. Beautiful country walks nearby.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked First off I was a lone camper and felt safe, which was most important.

I called the number provided upon arrival and directed with what to do. I met the owner on my 2nd day who was a really lovely lady, a family lady behind a great business idea and I was welcomed.

I visited towards the end of season at the end of September, the field dry and firm with no muddy patches and cars had NOT churned up the grass which was a sign that it has attracted respectable visitors over the season. Easy to get pegs in to the ground.

I was on Pitch 3 out of my own choosing as you can pick where you go, only 2 others in motorhomes on the Electric hookups were on site with me which was perfect for me as I dont like to be packed in next to each other & can feel I have escaped into my own bubble for the weekend. I think when at full capacity, due to how big the pitches are between each other, that everyone will have space to not feel on top of each other. Which I would be comfortable to go at peak season given the space between each other.

This pitch has had previous comments on it not being flat. The pitch had a few fresh dig marks from rabbits which you expect for being out in the wild!! And some areas close to the fence where the tree roots are. You cant complain on this, it is expected in the natural world! The pitch was huge between each pitch either side and being in a 8 person hexagon tent with my dog, we had loads of grass area to choose from and it was flat between each pitch! Just look at the ground and position accordingly. I would say to watch the weather as in my case on the second night it got a little windy for a few hours and I wish I pitched my tent further out from the fence/tree line and out of the way of the tree. But this is MY lesson and observation to make as a camper and my own safety in weather conditions. The tree was here long before me & it made for a perfect setting.

The field at the road side edge, does have a small slope down and that your car can manage. Clearly, you would camp on that bit & it goes to the road sidepitches along the hedge line which I think was 3. I personally would not choose them pitches as it has a country road on the other side of the hedge and would trigger my dog. I didnt like that some dog walkers parked up on the other side of the hedge and I think went for a walk. I wouldnt choose them pitches in my personal view.

I loved the visits at the secure fence, from the goats, I called him Big Bill and his girlfriend Lady Piggy! She was shy & followed Big Bill everywhere but kept a distance from the fence. They are great characters & made my weekend lovely.

Perfect for dogs, everyone respected the dog on lead rule, one camper took a dog fence & secured the area around the camper with the field fence so they had a great set up.

The site was spottless clean & no one made a mess and picked up after the dogs.

The dog field was brilliant for walking especially when the public came during the day for socialising.

A few walks out of the top gate of the dog walking field can be found.

The visiting public at the Dog pool & field & cafe do pick up a bit of noise as expected after 10, but it is a dog heaven & for dog lovers it isnt a issue as dogs are enjoying the socialising or the water.

The locals of Norfolk were lovely, welcoming really chatty, gave me lots of suggestions of places to visit. I was made really welcome.

The cafe again, super friendly. The full breakfast was delicious, it came with a choice of tea, coffee or juice included in the price & also had dog options on the menu. I asked for an dog sausage patty for mine. Clean plates all round.

The nightlife was brilliant, you will hear Owls and foxes in the night.

I would suggest to call ahead to the dog spa/groomer
The hydrotherapy looked a great business and health care to look into.

I would stop again

Disliked For me, I would like to have a shower that was seperate and more private from the pot wash and somewhere I could get ready before stepping back out into the public area,

I went to shower at night so to avoid the day visitors in the morning around the cafe and decided to go and walk the dog in the field as someone was washing dishes outside the door to the only shower behind the cafe at night and I didnt want him to feel uncomfortable and was keeping myself safe.

The lighting to the shower around the side of the cafe at night wasnt working and the sensor in the shower kept switching the light off which was a bit spooky at times.

It would be nice to see a seperate male and female shower and toilet facility to wash and get ready etc. I was one of 3 visitors, I suspect at full capacity the shower will be a wait or plan your time well. The water was hot, but the shower head could do with a refresh as some water would spray in all directions, i am not a fan of the push button to keep the water flowing but understand why as it saves water. I had to keep my hand on it to try and wash my hair. I would struggle to support washing children with the shower set up and push button.

It was manageable for me, but if improved would make the camping showering experience perfect.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful campsite, basic toilets and shower but clean and well maintained.
Nice they allow fire pits (we brought our own)
Wood and kindle on site to purchase.
Lovely cafe on site with washing up facilities at the rear.
Perfect for dogs , extremely dog friendly here.
Nice 25min walk to the village via the fields, perfect for a long dog walk.
There is a dog dip and dive on site , we didn't use it as our dogs are scared lol, but looked awesome.
Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Lots of animals to see and pet :-)

Disliked Only tiny thing , could do with a dish wash area nearer , as cafe walk in the dark is a bit far , but it's a real minor

Electric grass pitch

Liked What a beautiful campsite! Huge field with just 6 pitches! Level pitch with EHU and very peaceful. Loved having the sheep and goats next door who were friendly and watched me eat with great hope and expectation. Facilities are basic but were very clean. Dog enjoyed his swim at Wymondham Dip and Dive and his pupcake from the cafe which serves delicious cakes. Most impressed.

Disliked Shower in the field was basic but there is also a much nicer one in the barn behind the cafe for camper use. Lovely hot water and again very clean!

Electric grass pitch

Liked We used it as a stop over only.

Disliked I would not say for more than one night. The feild had lots of sheep droping if you opened the doors hundreds of fly's came in. Water tap was across the courtyard.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: There are no sheep droppings on the field. There may be rabbit droppings but it’s a countryside location and to be expected. As with flies, it is surrounded by agricultural land and flies happen, there is nothing we can do about it. The facilities are always cleaned daily and many comments about how spotless they are so the mark is very unfair. Also the water tap is on the field, as shown on the information maps on the gate

If you have dogs then the best site ever.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely quiet small site and absolutely amazing for dogs. Very clean, well serviced and lit well at night. Great walks direct from the site plus an amazing on site cafe.

Disliked Flies!!! but it was warm and surrounded by lovely animals so not surprised really.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
I was also devastated by the influx of flies. Due to an earlier than normal harvest the farm next door spread turkey muck on the fields just before you arrived.
It is normally done later when the weather is cooler but we have no control over when or where it is done.
We have registered our disappointment with the contractors.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The location and walk into the town. Plenty of pitch space and the dog exercise area.

Disliked The shower was a wooden shed but without a full sized door and therefore draughty. Luckily we were there during a heatwave and it was dry outside. Apart from a text before we arrived to notify me of the pitch number we did not see anyone which is unusual on campsites that we visit.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
In response to the shower there is a second shower in the barn which is fully enclosed.
The shower on the field is designed to give a 'back to nature' off grid feel.
I would normally try to greet every arrival but I had to fill in for a colleague (my other job) in a meeting on Friday.
When guests stay for a short time my visits to the field and cleaning facilities may not co-incide with their time on their pitches but I am always available via phone if any problems.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A lovely quiet campsite, not too many tents. The food in the cafe is gorgeous and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The shower is hot and easy to use, all facilities are kept very clean and stocked up. It's nice being so close to nature with the pygmy goats and alpacas so close by, and we loved the geese (but kept a respectful distance from their beaks!). The owner come over to say hello and help orientate us to the facilities then leaves you alone, which is appreciated. There are shops and supermarkets nearby, and it's only about 25 minutes drive to Norwich

Disliked Nothing- I've been several times now and love it.

Local attractions

Flick through the history books… the two towers of the Benedictine Wymondham Abbey (five minutes' drive) aren’t hard to spot from afar – and there’s fab architecture inside too. For other trips back to times past, you could travel along the Mid Norfolk Railway (five minutes) or nosy around Norwich (20 minutes) to look at the cathedral, castle and market. In Wymondham, perhaps pay a visit to the Wymondham Heritage Museum (five minutes) or the arts centre at Becket's Chapel. And for beaches, make your way to Gorleston (50 minutes), Cromer (an hour), Wells-next-the-Sea (an hour) or Holkham (an hour and five minutes). Chat to the site about hiring a beach hut if you wish. For activities that will take you to the trees, Thetford Forest Park (35 minutes) is all about those peaceful forest walks and picnics – or, for those more adventurous types, Go Ape Thetford (40 minutes) will give you a birds’ eye view of the forest from the obstacle course and zipwires in the treetops. Whether you’re a big kid or you’ve got ones of your own, there are plenty more family-friendly activities around these parts. Perhaps a zoo day at Banham Zoo (25 minutes) or catching an event at the Norfolk Showground (15 minutes)? Boating on the Norfolk Broads (half an hour) or daring to go on the dinosaur-themed rides at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure (25 minutes)?
