Liked: Lovely site, but unfortunately when we arrived the site was empty, it had been sold, and there was major ground work to start, so we only was able to stay for 2nights, but we did get a refund of the new owner for the remaining nights.
Disliked: None

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch
Liked: This is a lovely site, like staying in a woodland glade. No regimented lines of caravans. Huge areas (bays) for each pitch. Lots of trees, bushes and wildlife. I spent some time, setting up a little 'meal' of nuts and dried fruit on one of the tables each day, as I wanted to film a visiting Jay that I saw on day 2 of our stay, which I managed to do. The site was level. Plenty of hook up points. We tend to use our own toilet and shower, but the washroom on site was adequate (might have been chilly if the weather was not warm). We love sites like this with basic facilities, nature, space and not many other campers. We are not bothered about being greeted by someone on arrival. The owners responded to my text communication very promptly. We were able to use our phones as mobile Internet hotspots (we are with Tesco mobile). The water tap, chemical toilet disposal, bins, including recycling, are situated at the end of the low building on the right, as you turn into the site, tge last part of this is where the toilet and shower room are. There is a large stone covered hard standing area, before the gate to the main camping site.
Disliked: Another camper has explained about the deep shingle, that was used to cover some of the soft ground area (dried out now) on a 'pinch point' that has to be crossed to access the main part of the site, after the gate. The beginning of this area was OK as large stones had been used with a good thickness, it was the last 3 or so metres of finer shingle that was the issue. We arrived when the caravan that was stuck in this, needed pulling out. Luckily, us and fellow campers were all practical people and between us, we managed to pull the stuck van out, by un-hooking our 'van and driving our car, avoiding the finer shingle, onto the long grass, at the right hand side (ground had dried out). We also made use of some heavy rubber mats, on site, to cover up the soft shingle at the edges. Having all helped to dig out the shingle around the buried wheels and jockey wheel, we could just get the hitch onto our car (with help from another camper who lifted up the front of the caravan!) and towed the 'van to its pitch. We then reversed our car and re hitched up our own 'van, and knowing to avoid the middle area with the deep shingle, we took our 'van to its pitch. So definitely some sort of stone re-laying is needed to make access onto the main camping area totally infallible and easy to negotiate, particularly with no on site manager to call on. We were back and forth over the area all week and got off the site easily, as we now knew which bit to avoid!

Never again. £20 a night is still too expensive for all the problems.

Liked: Lovely peaceful site....shame about the rest.
Disliked: The acces to this site is totally unacceptable. From previous reviews I could see that some visitors had got stuck in the mud. The owners claimed to have fixed this. Their solution was to put down several tons of shingle. Anyone who has pulled a sand trolley on a shingle beach will know that this is NOT a solution. If it weren't for my fellow travellers I would be stuck there still. It tells you all you need to know that the telephone number for a local recovery firm is included in the list of useful numbers.
The facilities are described as basic and they are. I have no problem with that but a glass door, albeit frosted left me feeling a little vulnerable.
The keys are to the toilet/shower was set so high on the wall that I could barely see the numbers. I am a little under 5ft 3ins tall.
The other issue with my lack of height is the cesspit. Again I have no issue with this per se but there is no restriction on the lid. This meant that to close it after use I had to risk either falling in or getting stung by the surrounding stinging nettles and holly. At the very least this needs to be cut back before it covers the cesspit completely.
There is a drainage ditch to the side ofvthe site that is completely blocked. This is not helping with the mud problem.
There is also a dead tree that is shedding branches that needs hk be felled before it injures someone.

From the manager: I think the positive here is the pitches are spacious and peaceful and I would have hoped this is the main point which everyone so far has agreed upon. •This is a new site and we are trying to act on people’s positive comments. Stopping and revving on the shingle got you bedded in unfortunately. •The drainage ditch is absolutely nothing to do with the excessive rainfall that caused muddy entrances on one particular weekend it is part of a system all along Dog lane and is not blocked. • I don’t agree re the frosted glass the toilet is not in front of the glass and the door can be locked. • There are two cess pits one with a modern Elsan tipping unit you could have used this option.
A nice little site, but check thoroughly for soft ground before entry.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch
Liked: This is a lovely secluded spot with nicely proportioned pitches. The tiolet/shower is basic but functional. There was good communication with the owner who was very helpful when we had a problem and had to abandon our stay.
Disliked: The ground beyond the entrance was too soft for vehicles beyond the entrance and we were quickly bogged in to our axle on the front wheels. It took 40 minutes to get out with the use of mud mats and a shovel. A fellow camper also assisted (parked on the only hard standing by the entrance). It wasn't much fun being covered in mud after a long journry and with night fast approaching. The owner doesn't live locally and was unaware that the recent rains had made the ground so soft. I recommend that if you use this site you thoroughly reconnoitre it to ensure the ground is firm enought to drive on before driving in.

From the manager: You were fully refunded in exceptionally wet conditions. We have taken on board the issue of getting stuck in the entrance with 15 ton of shingles now laid so hopefully this problem won’t occur again.
Pretty with potential, but needs work. Not recommended.

Liked: Beautiful seculded site with electric access throughout.
Disliked: Poorly maintained access road: Another couple's vehicle became stuck in the mud.
Sub-standard ablutions: Single room with shower and toilet. At least the water was nice and hot.

From the manager: It’s a field location and you came in exceptionally wet conditions. We have taken note to extend the gravel into the field. The toilet is as described basic but perfectly functional, we feel we offer good value !!

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch
Liked: Lovely, secluded spot.....it's even prettier than photos suggest.
Site is unmanned but communication was spot on, giving all key info/access codes etc well in advance and responding straight away to my questions.
Site was quite water logged after days of incessant rain and we liked that we were offered the alternative of a hard standing pitch or a refund.....and on arrival at site we liked seeing that measures were being taken to deal with water logging issues for access to site.
Disliked: Having to open key safe every time me or one of my kids needed the bathroom but guessing bad experience has made it prudent to keep (clean and very well appointed given 'basic facility' listing) toilets locked.

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind words. I apologise for the weather but today’s the first day of summer so here’s hoping! 🌞

Disliked: It is just a field a motorhome was stuck in the mud just inside the gate and there is only 1 toilet and shower and it is outside the site

From the manager: I think you got very upset with exceptionally wet weather which was unfortunate!! We have already made plans to improve the entrance but yes we are a simple field location and we have made the description clear!
Ideal if you like nature and want to get away from it all.

Liked: Lovely garden type site.....really picturesque, and the owners were very helpful, even sending information re. places to visit and things to do in the area. We arrived and pitched up under a tree, plugged in to the electric point and it felt like we were really getting away from it all and it was so lovely to be surrounded by beautiful birdsong! When arriving there is self-check in via secure coded locked gate and there was a shower, toilet, washing machine and other facilities in a secure block, again accessed via secure code lock. After entering through the gate there is the shower/toilet facilities block followed by a gravelled area on the right with facilities such as water, waste drain, and recycling/waste bins and then further into the site are the pitches. Wifi was available but limited to the area down by the shower/toilet facilities but we did not find this to be a problem.
Disliked: Didn't dislike anything..... as mentioned, it was a lovely garden type setting.
It did rain on the second day and when we were leaving so as the pitches were all grass, in terms of very wet weather, this may need to be considered when booking.

Liked: Glorious haven of peace and wildlife. Huge, secluded pitches with no disturbances from anyone! Dogs loved it too!
Accurate description of facilities, which were perfectly adequate and better than many of a similar price! Owners were very quick to respond to the few questions we had.
Disliked: Elsan disposal facilities!
