  • Peaceful glampsite on the banks of the North Walsham & Dilham Canal
  • BeWILDerwood, Norfolk Broads and Wroxham Barns within 15 mins' drive
  • A 25-minute drive from three beaches and 30 minutes from Norwich
Settle in for scenic and peaceful stays at Tonnage Bridge Retreats, a family-friendly glampsite under 15 minutes’ drive from the Norfolk town of North Walsham… with Norwich half an hour's drive away if you hanker after busier days. This is a top spot for laidback hols, in handsome green countryside on the banks of the scenic North Walsham & Dilham Canal: those most at ease waiting for bites can call this home for a few days’ fishing, while anyone with a penchant for switching off entirely can set up shop next to a firepit or at one of the picnic benches and simply soak up the quiet. Those firepits will come in handy when it comes time for eats (barbecues are also welcome on site, if firepits aren't your style), but be sure to try out some local bites and sips too: there are a handful of restaurants within 10 minutes, as well as pubs serving food, and Woodforde’s Brewery has tours and tastings 20 minutes away. The closest village for supplies is Dilham, five minutes' drive away; for more substantial shops, North Walsham is 15 minutes from the site. If a ramble is more the order of the day, this is the right place to come: the site is under 15 minutes' drive from the edge of the Broads for days of messing out on and near its famed waterways. Walking and biking trails are within easy reach, as are BeWILDerwood (kids) and Wroxham Barns shopping (grownups), each 15 minutes away.

Local attractions

Widen your knowledge of the Broads if you’re here in the warmer months, at the Museum of the Broads 10 minutes’ drive away in Stalham. Open from late March to the end of October, this is stuffed with info and exhibits relating to this lush landscape (including boats: envy induced), and has trails to stroll along, events to join in and picnic areas by the water to partake of. Kids – and grownups of a certain disposition – will also have a blast at BeWILDerwood (15 minutes), the woodland adventure park with treehouses, rope bridges and zipwires; tiddlers can tag along too as there are two areas especially for under-fives. Further afield, puffing on the Bure Valley Railway is 25 minutes’ drive from the site and Pleasurewood Hills theme park is 55 minutes away at Lowestoft. And might small sorts also like to be sandy sorts? But of course: the nearest beaches are Eccles, Sea Palling and Waxham, all 20 to 25 minutes away.
