The fishing pond on site

  • Quiet family-run working farm site in rural Norfolk
  • A 30-minute drive from Thetford Forest Park; 35 minutes to Hunstanton
  • Horses and dogs accommodated; fishing pond and kitchen area on site
From muddling your way down bridleways, forest trails and estates to pottering around quaysides or getting stuck into a classic Victorian seaside resort, you’ll be able to kickstart a breezy break in Norfolk from Abbey Farm Holidays. This quiet, rural site halfway between Swaffham and King’s Lynn isn’t just a good spot for the family or your assorted group of adventurers, though – dogs and horses are also accommodated on site. You’re in for a pretty cosy time here, as there’s a shower and toilet on site, as well as a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, kettle and dishwashing area for prepping your own food, perhaps ready for a campfire or barbecue. The site is in East Walton, one of three villages in the Westacre Estate, where footpaths and bridleways are an added convenience. The estate has a rewilding project surrounding the site, so you might catch wild ponies, cattle, pigs and other native animals while out on your wanders. This is a family-run site, so the owners will be able to point those of you with horses in the direction of good horse riding routes. You’ll also get the lowdown on where’s hot to eat out nearby – handily, there are a couple of pubs within five minutes’ drive of the site. Those of you who are down for a spot of fishing will also be happy to find that there’s a fishing pond on site stocked with tench, roach, perch and carp to round things off.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked This was our second visit within the last few weeks and it’s absolutely lovely.
A lovely simple ( no frills ) location which allows you to just switch off and relax .
Ok it’s a working live stock farm along with quite a lot of stabling and livery yard however this doesn’t in away impact or intrude into the beautiful quiet this brings you .

There’s a good few walking places around the farm and nearby places to keep one interested .

A really lovely welcome greats you with lots of info provided , there’s a shower and toilet block for campers to use ( Bring £1 coin for the showers )

The big plus if like us where we go so do the doggies .. there happily accept 3 doggies , there is plenty of spaces to exercise mostly on lead although normally one specific field you can let them roam off lead ..

The little lake has a small boat that you can us3 ( if brave enough ) ..

We lovely it and am coming back towards the end of September for a few more days ..

Disliked Nothing really

No pretense, no fuss you book in and you are left in…

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked No pretense, no fuss you book in and you are left in peace. Yes it’s basic but so is the price. Stunning settings and the typical landscape of a working farm. We been all over this week at some top rated sites but loved this one the best. Give it a go!!

Disliked Nothing, but like others have noted an extra loo would be a bonus but not the end of the world.

Great site with easy access to the coast or Thetford forest.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked I stayed with my eldest daughter who is nearly 12. Plenty of space on the pitches. Electric hook up if required (we decided not to use it as we were only staying two nights). Pitch had it's own hose point for water. Lovely area with the re-wilding - we saw ponies grazing, which my daughter loves. She also loved being able to row the boat on the pond. Shower was clean. Washing up area and toilet were clean. Firewood was £5 for a big bag and we bought some local honey! Nothing not to love. We would love to stay again.

Disliked Nothing.

It was a lovely camping experience except for the rain.

Liked Absolutely loved it, it was easy to find and close to beaches and towns. The site was clean and the owners were friendly. We saw wild horses while walking around the site and the scenery is beautiful.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Large pitches.
Quietness.
Cleanliness.
Within walking distance of the rewilding area, we saw a wild pig,a herd of cattle and deer.
Friendliness of host.
Dog friendly.
Pond with plenty of fish, resident heron, geese with goslings.
Shower cost £1 (put in a meter) wasn't on a timer and the towel radiator warmed up too which was lovely - i have no problem with paying to shower.
Other campers were respectful of each other and the facilities.

Disliked Not a dislike, but would've liked a fold down stool in the shower room to either sit on or put clothes on.

Will definitely be back!

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The peace, cleanliness, countryside, animals.

Disliked Nothing really! It is a working farm so you won’t really get a lie in, and it’s a shame there is only one toilet.

Liked Smallness of the site and links to many footpaths in the rewinding area.

Liked Really loved this site! Was very family friendly and just a lovely place to get back in touch with nature. The farmer was so lovely and gave us lots of options to see around the site. We even got a chance to help herd the sheep. The facilities were perfect for what we needed. Thank you for a lovely weekend

Local attractions

What kind of scenery would you rather have for your wanders? Perhaps a country house, gardens and park for your walks or cycles at Sandringham Estate (15 minutes’ drive)? The Palladian-style Holkham Hall (45 minutes) and its parklands? King’s Lynn (20 minutes) for Hanseatic town with heritage sites, the quayside and the Hanse Trail down a route taken in medieval times? Or Swaffham (15 minutes) to see all the little makings of a market town? There’s walking, cycling and wildlife spotting (if you’ve got the patience for that one) in Thetford Forest Park (half an hour). Binoculars might also come in handy for the Snettisham (25 minutes) nature reserve and beach too, where there might be pink-footed geese, knot and shelduck for the spotting. In case your visit has you craving more of the seaside, Holkham beach (50 minutes) could be your next scenic stop-off, or perhaps Hunstanton (35 minutes), where there’s a classic Victorian seaside resort with the works, including windsurfing, paddleboarding and kitesurfing.
