Here’s a super spot for families, couples and especially dog owners… a 15-minute drive from Thetford Forest in rural Norfolk, Mill Field Meadows is a back to basics getaway that’ll bring you close to nature. At the same time, it’s still near enough to towns for those who fancy a spot of shopping or a night out in the pub. Set in three acres, there’s room to spread out. Within a very short walk is the popular Pingo Trail, which has eight miles of tracks and trails along the eastern edge of The Brecks. There are more trails across rural Norfolk and Thetford Forest. There’s a farm shop one minutes’ walk away, which should also give you good inspiration for cooking meals over the communal firepit or on your own barbecue. Pick up any other supplies in Watton, a market town with shops, pubs and takeaways, 10 minutes’ drive away. Thetford has a further selection, 15 minutes’ drive away. Remember to bring everything you need, as the back to basics site has a toilet and rubbish bins, and not much else. The pitches are part of a meadow, which is surrounded on all sides by gorgeous trees and wildlife (how splendid).

Liked: Such a lovely setting to stay in, well kept grounds with beautiful scenery. The freedom to choose your own pitch was great and we had more than enough space for comfort. After arrival we met our hosts, who were so welcoming and friendly , offering us information on local attractions and possible places to go. Although our hosts listed there was no water on tap (which we were aware of before going) they ensured bottles of water were left for guests to use and replenished daily- so helpful ! The shared toilet on site was clean and at a location accessible for all staying.

Our hosts made sure on the advert of the site to prepare us for our stay, such as bringing a torch to navigate around the grounds.
We enjoyed our stay so much and cannot wait to stay again. Thankyou so much for a great bank holiday weekend !

Liked: Lovely area, nice scenery, nice farm shop within walking distance with a very friendly farmer and his cats. The toilet was clean and well maintained, and the free water was greatly appreciated.

Disliked: Just a little close to a road so some traffic noise but nothing too bad and very quiet after dark.

Liked: Had the meadow to ourselves. Felt safe for the kids to run and play here. Saw a young deer in the meadow briefly!
