  • Small family-run shepherd’s hut in the shadow of the Malvern Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Great Malvern and 15 from Worcester
  • Self-contained shepherd's hut with a kitchenette and own bathroom
For swanky stays in stunning scenery, bed down under the big open skies of Worcestershire at Newlands Meadow, where a single shepherd’s hut looks out across to the Malvern Hills. The cosy unit contains all the comforts of home, including underfloor heating, double glazing, bed linen provided, mains water and mains electricity, plus a private hot shower and chemical loo (which guests will be asked to empty). A small kitchenette is here for cooking and a village pub – with food and an open fire – is a five-minute walk out of the gate and down the lane. For a nifty snack when you arrive (or while you're out and about) there's a little stash of cookies and breakfast bars provided. Forgot wine and beer? The park has spares just in case (simply bring a little cash to put in the honesty box). There’s also a radio, a Bluetooth speaker, games and paints in the hut to keep you entertained. If it’s warm out, pad across the rug-topped wooden floors to spend some time out on the outdoor seating next to the firepit and gas barbecue. Bring wellies if there’s rain about – the ground can get a little muddy. You might hear the hum of traffic in the distance when outside, but it’s not apparent in the hut. Need to stock up? Great Malvern (10 minutes’ drive) is the spot for shopping and also has a cinema, theatre and swimming pool. Bikes are for hire locally if you’d like to pedal power your way along a signed cycle route in the hills.

Local attractions

This site’s a stellar spot for a weekender if you’re off to an event at the Three Counties Showground (10 minutes' drive). Nothing on there when you’re visiting? Use Newlands Meadow as a base for exploring the surrounding scenery, especially the pretty paths in the Malvern Hills (15 minutes). If you'd rather be by water there's fly fishing five miles away, with tuition and kit hire available if you're only just getting started. Alternatively, investigate the sights by the river in Worcester (15 minutes) – this West Midlands city has a medieval cathedral with royal tombs, cloisters and a crypt, as well as an intriguing selection of 17th-century displays in the Tudor House Museum. More history is to be had at Eastnor Castle (20 minutes) and in the medieval streets and abbey of Tewkesbury (25 minutes). And if you’re after more of a modern day out? Cheltenham Racecourse (35 minutes) is a top choice for getting your glad rags on and watching the horses.

Lorna Loone shepherd's hut

Liked: The hut itself was amazing, definitely glamping, lol, and it had all you could need in there. The privacy of the ‘garden’ was lovely, loved the wood burner outside … and the secret seat, to take cover if it showers and you want to stay outside. Also the comfy chairs inside were a blessing to collapse into when returning to the ‘hut’. The enamelled picture of the Sun ☀️ was probably my favourite bit inside the hut, it was stunning!! The location is lovely but be aware it is on a campsite. Had a fabulous time in the hut and would definitely go back!

Disliked: The fact that the top of the portapotti is enamel & hence very heavy when you go to lift it on & off to empty it. If you have back issues (yes I do, lol) you maybe better off using the toilets on site. The Wi-Fi isn’t free , but we just used mobile data on our phones to avoid using open networks

Lorna Loone shepherd's hut

Liked: I found the balance perfect in every way. The site is located by a main road we didn't experience any disruption from traffic noise even though we had windows open. The shower room was really clean and well laid out as is the rest of the hut. A lot of thought as obviously gone into making your stay as perfect as possible. The outside space is amazing including the secret seat. There is a lot of small touches that leave you wanting for nothing. Thank you for making our easter break such an enjoyable experience.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. Unable to find fault without being petty.
