  • Well-maintained farm camping field at Edingale in Staffordshire
  • Twycross Zoo 15 minutes’ drive; Drayton Manor Resort 25 minutes
  • Lake and river fishing available; woodland walks; wildlife on site
If you’re up for a countryside escape but not keen to travel far from civilisation, Mease Meadows Midlands on the outskirts of Edingale in Staffordshire may be the spot for you. This site could not be more rural if it tried, yet it’s only 15 minutes’ drive from Tamworth and travelling to a host of attractions like Twycross Zoo and Drayton Manor Resort is a total breeze. Accessed via a neatly manicured forest track, the vast, flat camping field is on a working farm, and bordered by a 25-year-old, 100-acre woodland. You may be lucky enough to spot the abundant wildlife – ranging from white egrets and kingfishers on the River Mease to muntjac and badgers wandering along the woodland paths in the evening. On site, you can wake up to the dawn chorus and watch vivid sunsets; in between those times, fill your day with forest walks. Keen anglers get a double treat as they can fish for carp – some weighing up to 15lb – on the lake, or catch pike, perch, roach and the odd big chub on the Mease. Barbecues are permitted on site, and the owners provide firewood sustainably grown and harvested from their own forest. Pick up goodies for the grill from Tamworth supermarkets, but if you’re not feeling the alfresco cooking vibe, never fear, you have a choice of pubs within 10 minutes’ drive.
