  • Small, friendly Staffordshire campsite in the rural village of Hixon
  • Shugborough Hall 15 minutes’ drive and Alton Towers half an hour
  • Dog-friendly pitches with electric hook-ups; pub five minutes’ walk
Heading Staffordshire way? If you’re after somewhere small and friendly to lay your head, make a beeline for Oak Deer Country Park in the rural village of Hixon. This peaceful and well-tended site has far-reaching rural views and on clear, cloudless days you’ll be rewarded with spectacularly colourful sunsets. The pitches have facilities including drinking-water standpipes and pay-as-you-go electric hook-ups, plus a unisex toilet. Several lights come on around the site so you can walk safely after dark – however, these go off at midnight. Right next to the campsite is a field dedicated to exercising your four-legged companions; for longer walkies you can follow a public footpath along the Trent and Mersey Canal (20 minutes’ stroll) and across the surrounding farmland. Just please keep your dogs on a lead and under control around the site, and pick up any droppings. There are also lots of handy amenities close at hand; you can walk to a convenience store, a couple of takeaways and a pub in less than five minutes.

Liked: I have to say this site was brilliant for a group of us that went there. James who is a top guy, put us altogether and tried his best to accomadate us in the best way he could. James, was amazing and could not do enough to help us. There's a lovey pub just down the road and a large Co-op right next to the site. It does say on the pitch-up site that there are no toilets or elsan point, but there is one unisex toilet that I have to say was the cleanest toilet I've ever seen, super spotless no matter what time of the day you went to use it. There is also an elsan point which was definately a bonus too. Yes, there are no showers and that's the only downfall but that's what campings all about lol. Fully recommend and I will definately been going again, that's if we are allowed lol

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely clean site, wardens were great, very friendly and amenable, excellent position, right near a shop and 2 mins from a pub. We only stayed 2 nights whilst visiting family, so showering wasn't an issue for us, ( we have one in the caravan ) but the lack of a toilet block and showers would be an issue for a longer stay ( hence the 4 * rating ) would definitely have been a 5* if they had had a shower block. Would stay again though.
