Four Oaks Farm
Family-sized pitch
Set over 32 acres of grassland
Tents of all shapes and sizes are welcome

  • Back-to-basics Staffordshire farm site in 32 acres of countryside
  • Located in Cannock Chase; a five-minute drive from Rugeley and the A51
  • Pop-up shop selling hot drinks, local produce and camping equipment
For days biking through the forests of Cannock Chase, make tracks for this cycle-friendly farm site in Staffordshire. Stays are wonderfully laidback affairs at Four Oaks Farm – with 32 acres to pitch up in, there's plenty of space for everyone to chill out, cook and wander as they please. Head here for easy access to some of Staffordshire's top cycle paths (or walks with a well-behaved dog hot on your heels, if you've brought one). The Chase Mountain Bike trail is adjacent to the site, and there's a visitor centre on hand over the road if you need help getting to grips with your surrounds. There's also a Gruffalo-themed nature trail for the tiddlers to totter along here.  Back at base, the views are mighty fine and the basics are all covered: guests can expect spacious pitches, drinking water and portable toilets/showers, along with a pop-up shop (in high season only). Barbecues are welcome on site as long as they're raised off the ground, but please don't bring any firepits along. Need to stock up? Rugeley (five minutes' drive) has plenty of food shops, as well as pubs and takeaway options. If you're planning to leave the car at home for this one, this is also where you'll find the nearest station (about a 20-minute bike ride away).

What customers say

Brilliant spot facing Cannock Chase for a bit of the outdoors. Staff are sound, site's got plenty of room, and the shop's a lifesaver. Showers and loos are tidy enough, bar the odd whiff or blockage. Pizza van's a winner. Can get a bit noisy with events or the road, and the shop's a tad pricey for some.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely toilets and showers, large open campsite right next to Cannock chase.

Onsite shop was also a plus. They seemed to seek everything you might possibly want whilst camping.

Disliked Didn't spot the road when we booked, so there was a bit more traffic noise than we normally aim for.

Liked Loved the space, the peacefulness and the scenery. We had a really nice stay. Back to basics chance to just enjoy the views and wildlife.

Disliked Only thing weren't keen on was the toilets, but having said that they were clean and well maintained, so it wasn't a huge problem!

Liked Beautiful site. Lovely little pizza van. Very spacious, loved to be able to pick our own pitch and a small shop with everything you could need!

Disliked Small issue - one of the toilet blocks were a bit stinky but can see the site are trying to do everything to sort this.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Pre allocated electric pitch so there was no concerns with our 2 pitches being next to each other.
Friendly staff who were always on hand offering advise when needed.

Disliked Not a dislike, more of a suggestion. To have a little play park for the younger children aswell as the tree swing on site. If families don't want to cross the road to cannock chase park then this would be helpful to have a little something for the children to do whilst on the field.

Could do with a softer matting in the shower blocks as hard spiky rubber matting hurts feet.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The location was excellent for going over to the bike routes, play area for our son, a nice simple campsite, with really friendly and helpful staff

Disliked The toilets are chemical toilets, which is fine, but obviously a bit smelly (from the chemicals the toilets themselves were clean) which just is the nature of a pop up site!

Local attractions

Fancying swinging through the trees? Go Ape is a couple of minutes' walk from site at Birches Valley Forest – head here if you fancy taking on this 1,500-metre-long high ropes course. Segway hire is also available next door for speedy self-powered laps of the woodland. The National Trust's Shugborough Estate (10 minutes' drive) is also close by: this Georgian manor house has gorgeous grounds and is home to a working farm where the kids can get up close and personal with friendly livestock. For more historic architecture, head down the road to Stafford Castle (20 minutes), where there's an interactive heritage trail and museum to get stuck into.  Other family-friendly options in the area include the National Forest Adventure Farm (20 minutes) with its bouncy soft play zone and go-karting track. Want to ramp up the adrenaline a little more? Jaunts to classic theme parks like Drayton Manor (25 minutes) and Alton Towers (half an hour) can be sorted in a doddle. For some slower times after all that action, Dovedale (45 minutes) is a prime spot for peaceful Peak District wanders.
