  • Peaceful Shropshire farm park with views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin
  • A 15-minute drive to Church Stretton; 25 to Shrewsbury
  • On-site half-acre fishing lake; fresh eggs available
Get set for proper peace and quiet in Shropshire at this fab farm park with views over Lodge Hill and The Wrekin. The Shepherd's Loft is a pretty Shropshire park on a traditional family-run farm in the tiny village of Frodesley. With easy access from the road, dark night skies for stargazing and freshly-laid eggs for sale at the top of the drive, it's a place where you can get back to life's simple pleasures and explore the very best of the Shropshire countryside. Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including well-maintained toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Handily, The Shepherd's Loft is also a five-minute drive from a local farm shop on the A49, while those searching for a supermarket will find Shrewsbury (25 minutes’ drive) has plenty to offer in that department. How to fill your days? Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, take a two-hour circular walk from the site or set off for more hikes in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

Disliked: Disgusting site Toilet block filthy Pot wash an environmental hazard. Bins not emptied for weeks and smelled . Only other guest smoking weed all night and urinating against rear of his van. NEVER AGAIN

From the manager: Hi, I’m sorry you were disappointed with your stay and when you arrived you did say that you were expecting a fully serviced pitch and would only be staying for one night. As this is the first we have heard of your issues we were unable to resolve anything for you. The bathroom is cleaned daily so these photographs were obviously taken at some point after cleaning and after someone had used in the meantime - although I will look at the shelf on the potwash which has been overlooked as it is not used being a lower shelf and is more part of the frame of the unit. There were only two other units on site the night of your stay and we would never condone the use of illegal substances on site or urinating against a van and we would have resolved this issue had it been raised with us. These other units were onsite for more than one night and with other guests and we had no other reports of problems of this type. The waste management company empty the bins regularly and they were due to be emptied the Wednesday following your one night stay.

Quiet, simple and beautiful stop-off location.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Simple, rural site set in a beautiful location. We stayed for 1 night as a stop-off to break a longer journey. Easy to check in, very friendly and a nice simple set up. We had hot water/showers/toilet in our motorhome so the limited facilities didn’t impact us. Lovely walks out of the farm and across the fields with great views. Likes the shared picnic benches by the motorhome pitches. Homemade jam and fresh eggs were lovely.

Liked: Lovely location. Easy to find . Nice hosts

Disliked: Lack of facilities. 1 toilet and shower for the entire place is not sufficient and wasn't cleaned at all during our stay. Loud constant dog barking from the farm itself.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely clean site with very friendly staff. Toilet and shower well maintained and clean. Homegrown/homemade produce on sale was a great bonus.

Disliked: Do think an extra toilet would be a benifit, especially if site was at full capacity.

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so. For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes). Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.
