In rural Shropshire, 15 minutes’ drive from Oswestry, Red Oak Camping is a welcoming site on a family-run working cattle farm; the presence of resident animals at some sites often means that you can’t bring dogs, but happily that is not the case here, where your well-behaved four-legged companion will be a welcome guest (though bear in mind that there is an extra charge). There are assorted accommodation options here, and what unifies them all is the feeling of spaciousness and the utterly peaceful vibe – give or take the occasional lowing from the cows… Guests also benefit from such amenities as a toilet and shower block, an outdoor washing-up area and ice-pack freezing, as well as recycling points, chemical waste disposal and charging facilities for electric cars. Mind you, you might not need to recharge your car until the day you leave, since it only takes 20 minutes on foot to reach the village of West Felton, from where a bus service links to places such as Oswestry, Shrewsbury (25 minutes) and Telford (40 minutes). West Felton also has a pub serving food – that’s if you don’t fancy firing up the barbecue for dinner – and there’s another pub within a half-hour walk (or five minutes’ drive), on the Montgomery Canal, which runs through Shropshire and Powys and is a pretty spot for a post-lunch walk.

  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

Brilliant new spot, dead quiet. Staff are lovely, can't do enough. Toilets and showers are spanking clean and modern. Pitches are big with great views. WiFi a bit iffy and washing up spot is a trek, but everyone loves it and wants to come back.

Liked This is a fantastic campsite. The owners were so lovely. Pitches were well spaced out and spacious. Facilities were very clean, and although there is only two toilets, this was never a problem and they are in the process of building more. Toy shed was a very welcome addition, which we have not had at a campsite before. Our two year old loved every minute. Would definitely stay again.

Liked We had a 2 night stay at Red Oak camping really wish we could have stayed longer, but we came away recharged.

On arrival we were greeted by Reece who showed us to our pitch which was fully serviced hard standing and in a greet position for the facilities but tbh the facilities are not a hike for anyone staying at the site as it’s only a small site, WiFi was fantastic best we’ve had on a site before.

The site was perfect , not crowded, peaceful, lovely showers, a kitchen if needed with a fridge freezer, cooker, microwave etc,great walk down to the canal and along to The Queens head pub then walked back through the village which is very pretty.

A very impressive site which I will definitely be visiting again , a fantastic family run site whom were all a lovely happy to help gang .

Liked Everything!

The site was very clean with excellent facilities. The showers were lovely and hot and even had benches to keep your clothes dry, very well thought out.

The fully fitted kitchen, was a real bonus, and offered everything you would ever need.

The site was a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay, with lovely scenery. We only stayed the one night, but plan to return soon.

The real stars of the show are the owners, who are fantastic, and make you feel so very welcome.

Liked I'm not usually 1 for leaving reviews,but this campsite is a little treasure and I would gladly go back for another trip.
Lots of facilities ( full kitchen equipment) and even had a toy chest for the kids to play with. But the best thing was the large open space to play in, in the middle of the field.

Local attractions

Shropshire Sculpture Park (five minutes’ drive) exhibits more than 100 artworks on the lush grounds of the British Ironwork Centre. They include the 13-foot Spoon Gorilla (made out of – you guessed it: spoons; upwards of 40,000 of them, donated by people all around the world) and a sculpture honouring police dogs. Dating from the 11th century, moated Whittington Castle (10 minutes) occupies a 12-acre site that is home to ducks, swans and other wildlife.
