  • Family-run smallholding site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Spectacular views over Wenlock Edge and surrounded by walking trails
  • Barbecues and firepits welcome; friendly dogs permitted on a lead
At Walnut Cottage Caravan Park, a peaceful family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from the small town of Much Wenlock in Shropshire, finding the dream getaway doesn’t have to be a tough nut to crack. Nine miles from Wenlock Edge and the meadows and woodlands of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Walnut Cottage is a paradise for ramblers and adventurers. Heaps of walking routes, cycling routes and riding trails – many of which are part of the Shropshire Way circular – crisscross the area, so pull on those walking boots, don your bike helmet or climb into the saddle and explore. For the little legs struggling to keep up, a play park back on site will buoy moods – let the kids burn off some energy on the swings, climbing frame and trampoline (or in the toddlers' area if they're still mini). Feeling peckish? Fire up the barbecue and pile it high with supplies from the convenience store in Much Wenlock, then tuck in by the campfire. Friendly dogs are welcome on site, so don’t forget to toss Rex a bone – just make sure he’s leashed first. There is no wifi on site.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very clean and tidy, well maintained, lovely view, friendly owner and nice park for young children. Close to Church Stretton and Much Wenlock.

Disliked A little tio many 'do not' signs around but appreciate why past incidents now warrant them. Previous review pics showed donkeys / goats so children a little disappointed not to see any animals.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review. Much appreciated.
I'm very sorry there is Signs saying do not etc. but the reason the signs are there because people don't abide by the rules for example you did not close the doors on the Shower Block yesterday to stop the cats entering the Shower Block that is part of the sign. (Do not) obviously I do need to put up the signs. Up,
As for the animals, I am so sorry they did not see them as they are only in the field by the Shower block and all day, I'm surprised they did not see them or hear them because they are calling all day to be fed ,
To be fair, I don't understand why you just didn't ask me because I would've took the kids into the field to pet them
Thank you
Wayne

Had a lovely couple of nights and would definitely stay again.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely location and very secure. Toilet/shower block was very clean. The owner, Wayne keeps the place very tidy and is very friendly and helpful. The site is sloped and so are the pitches but Wayne helps you get set up and level on blocks.
The children loved the play area, which has been recently renovated.
Electricity is paid for by meter at the end of your stay, but very good price considering we stayed four nights and felt like we used plenty of power.
Wayne also does a Chinese order for Saturday if people are interested, which is a nice touch.
Highly recommend this site

Disliked Couple of very noisy families late into the evening, but thankfully Wayne sorted that out and told them to be quiet

Local attractions

This part of Shropshire is brimming over with history. Start with an exploration of the ruins and reconstructions at the Wroxeter Roman city, Viriconium, 15 minutes’ drive from Walnut Cottage Caravan Park, then jump forward a thousand years or so for something more recent: at the birthplace of the industrial revolution in Ironbridge Gorge, 20 minutes away, wander through Blists Hill Victorian Town, learn about the history of iron in the Coalbrookdale Museum and cross the first cast-iron bridge in the world. There are plenty of stately homes and (formerly) impregnable fortresses nearby: the 13th-century Stokesay Castle is 30 minutes from Walnut Cottage, and the spectacular Attingham Park, Wilderhope Manor and Benthall Hall are all within 20 minutes of the site. The local towns are no slouches either: Church Stretton, the only town within the Shropshire Hills AONB, dates back to Norman times; Much Wenlock is home to a precursor to the modern Olympic Games, and the Wenlock Olympian Games are still held every year; and Shrewsbury was the birthplace of the Origin of Species’ Charles Darwin. For a break from history, hire a raft for a tour at Ironbridge Gorge, take to the slopes at the snowboarding and skiing centre in Telford, or get muddy at Severn Valley Quad Trekking, all within 35 minutes of Walnut Cottage.
