Spectacular views, spacious pitches and a cosy on-site bar selling food and drink… that’ll do nicely, eh? Have them all at peaceful family-run Wayside Camping, in the petite village of Aston on Clun. The outlook here is of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, a gorgeous area that furnishes guests with a very fine backdrop to an afternoon of chilling out or an evening gathering around the firepit or barbecue. It’s also a fab place to take your boots or bike – walking and cycle trails here cater for all comers from leisure strollers to more intrepid mountain bikers. Town time can be had nearby foraging in foodie Ludlow or meandering through medieval Shrewsbury, and there are a bunch of National Trust estates to gawp at too. Back at base, owners Ian and Tracy keep their nifty tourist info board updated with details of various local attractions and events. This quiet site hasn’t gone over the top with heaps of facilities: pitches have electrical supplies and guests have access to a modern toilet block with showers and a washing-up area. A shop is a few minutes’ walk away in the village.

Hired accommodation

  • Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Occupancy

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

  • There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Dogs

  • The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Admission

  • Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
  • Please note : tent pitches must be changed after 7 nights in order to preserve the grass. The charging of electric vehicles is subject to an additional cost of £10 per night per vehicle.

A grand spot, lovely views, and a decent bar. Pitches are roomy, it's dead peaceful too. A few mentioned the showers or Wi-Fi were a bit iffy, and one fella wasn't happy with the loo. Loads would come back again.

Liked We have been to this site 4 times now , it is so well kept and very peaceful , views around the site include fields & rolling hills. There is a lovely shower / toilet block which is immaculately kept , the showers are lovely & warm and there is plenty of space in the cubicle including hooks for your clothes & a seat. It is so nice that the site has a bar / restaurant which is a great space to chill after a day out , it is run by the site owners who couldn’t be more friendly . We would highly recommend this site

Liked Pitches are a good size and well maintained.Secure and quiet site. Village shop within 10 mins walk open from 8am to 3pm well stocked with things you might need.Nice views from the site.Toilet and shower facilities ( 2 of each in male block) clean and tidy but can imagine in busy times might be under pressure. With few campers on site at the time presented no issues.water and waste facilities available at MSP while water is also available distributed within pitches.

Disliked Some of the pitches will require an extra long EHU cable 25m + was not an issue on our pitch.
More information in the information/washing up area on local facilities /transport might be useful .

Liked It’s a lovely well kept quietsite. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
This was my second visit and I had time to visit the bar and was made to feel very welcome.

Liked Super friendly owners.
On site bar with limited food menu.
Good range of facilities including grey water run off for campervans/motorhomes.
No extra charge for showers.

Disliked Sloping site (but not overtly so).
Basin and shower taps that switch off before you hardly have chance to use them.

Liked Very friendly welcome and even though it’s a sloping site my pitch (5) was perfectly level 🙂 facilities were good and clean and there was a bar and nice sitting out area

Disliked It’s not a dislike at all but having a sign indicating the location of the key pad for the first entry gate as you drive in ( especially first time) would help maybe

Local attractions

Walkers may like to make their way to the Shropshire Way, a long-distance path that’s been carved up into lots of smaller portions, or head for the hilly heaths of Carding Mill Valley, 20 minutes away. While you’re there, hike up to the top of the Long Mynd for some fab views. Meanwhile, mountain bikers can test their skills on the trails 10 minutes away at Hopton Woods. This area is also home to a fine collection of castles: Stokesay Castle (five minutes away), the ruined Clun Castle (15 minutes) and Ludlow Castle (20 minutes) are all worth a stop. Ludlow’s also the place to pick up local eats at one of the local markets or independent shops. For more historic wanderings, take a trip to Shrewsbury, 40 minutes away, to see the famed black and white buildings, the abbey and another castle (of course). Or take your pick from the local National Trust piles: Attingham Park, Berrington Hall and Morville Hall are all within a 40-minute drive.
