Adventure play park

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids on site
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham, are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding; and open-top canoeing. This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this, and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots are on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail, a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

What customers say

Cracking spot for families and groups, with plenty of space. Close to the Water Sports Centre and Notts. Facilities are okay, but could do with a spruce-up and better cleaning. A bit of noise at weekends, and the shop's basic. Still, loads would come back.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Large grass area around pitch. Nearby country park is great for kids.

Disliked Toilets disgusting. We were only there for one night luckily but would have struggled to stay longer with how unclean other campers left toilets/showers - needed cleaning more regularly

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Clean site. Big.

Disliked Given a numbered pitch, someone already in it. Asked to go into the one next to it, only to have the occupants of that pitch return hours later. Cue having to move everything to yet another pitch. Could have been solved if staff has moved original people in wrong one or bothered to check that other pitch was available.

Camping pod (no pets)

Liked Really big, well spaced campsite with adequate facilities
We did visit for bank holiday so it was very busy, but check in was easy (we stayed in one of the pods)
Shop onsite is good for little bits, the walk to Nottingham isn’t too far and the water sports centre is close by
There is a kids park/playground onsite which does get very busy but it’s a good option to have!
We stayed in a deluxe pod which I would definitely recommend, the bed was very comfy, the sofa bed less so but it was fine for 2 nights.

Disliked With it being bank holiday the site was really busy - after reading the recent reviews from this summer I was worried it would be unclean and rowdy, but honestly it was fine! Saw a cleaner every day, and to be honest I think the messiness of the toilets were mainly down to unhygienic visitors - toilet paper on the floor, dirty cubicle walls in one or two, and blocked toilets with waste piling up (why you would keep using a piled up blocked toilet baffled me).

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This site has so much potential to be excellent, but it fell short for us.

To keep it short let's bullet point it, starting with the good and finishing with the bad:

○ The site is flat and pitches are set out with a good amount of space.
○ Play park for the kids is really good, open space for them to run around is also really good.
○ The site is within walking distance of the kayak lake and other water activities, however there is parking if you have lots of equipment to carry.
○ Plenty of water sources so you dont have to track too far to collect water.

Disliked ○ They have many rules on site such as no noise after 10 and no open flames, however this isnt policed and most people have fires and are rowdy until about midnight.
○ Lots of teenagers running riot while we were there, cant say its always like it.
○ The pitches are very open plan so people walk through them without consideration when heading to facilities.
○ Someone else in our pitch when we arrived, staff don't seem to know who should be where.
○ Dog mess and rubbish on the pitch we were given. This wasnt isolated to our pitch. Maintenance is lacking. The dog owners should be ashamed but the staff should be checking pitches before people arrive.
○ Map doesn't show chemical waste location, only the grey water location. I noticed this caused some confusion and chemical waste was emptied in the wrong location by some.
○ Not enough toilet blocks. The site is big with lots of pitches. The toilet blocks are in constant use with regular queues. If you're lucky, you arrive just after one of two visits made by staff each day. The first visit is a clean and restock, the second in the evening is just a restock. The toilets are not cleaned enough at all, the showers and toilets are good, the water is hot but with the number of visitors, they need better maintenance. They were constantly dirty and without toilet paper and the soap dispensers rarely had soap in them. There was a smell outside the toilets in the evenings too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Fabulous campsite, lots to do for children!
Everyone was super friendly!
Pitch was large, with plenty of space!

Disliked Let down by the lack of cleanliness in the showers and toilet.
Didn’t see a cleaner at all during our stay.
Toilets and showers were filthy most of the time! We camped with another family (8 people in total and all of us only showered once due to the cleanliness!

Only 4 sinks in total on campsite for washing up. Which in my opinion is not enough for the size of the campsite!
We ended up filling the kettle and washing up at our pitch!

I didn’t count but on guess there is only 6-8 showers and approximately 15 toilets for the whole campsite, again not enough!

I would stay here again, but for no longer than 3 days!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Nice location , great electric points , friendly staff.

Disliked Litter around edges of meadow field in bushes . This is mainly down to the people who stay on pitches but you would expect bottles and litter to be removed from perimeter of field.
