  • Quiet Nottinghamshire site overlooking a network of peaceful lakes
  • A 15-minute drive/20-minute bus ride from Nottingham city centre
  • Fishing on site; a short walk to Holme Pierrepont watersports centre
Wildlife and watersports in one location? If that sounds like a wonderful mix, nip off to Nottinghamshire and a stay at Copper Fox Camping. This welcoming site is a mere 15 minutes’ drive from central Nottingham – not that you’ll notice the city’s proximity when you’ve settled into one of these peaceful pitches. As the name suggests, this site is centred around its lakes, which provide an attractive backdrop to the pitches as well as the two largest being well stocked with carp, perch, chub and roach for anglers. Day tickets and night fishing sessions are bookable on site. Alternatively, of course, you could simply admire the watery views from your pitch, perhaps grabbing a couple of drinks or getting your barbecue going to provide sustenance while you soak up this serene atmosphere. This is a popular spot for wildlife too, with the Skylarks Nature Reserve next door being a good place to wander along the trails to see what you can see. From here it’s also just a few minutes’ walk to the National Water Sports Centre and Holme Pierrepont Country Park, where you can try out whitewater rafting, paddleboarding and kayaking or hit the treetop trails, adventure playground and miniature golf in the Outdoor Adventure Zone. Walks along the banks of the River Trent are also very close by, or you can stroll to the village of Radcliffe on Trent in about half an hour for food and drinks in one of its excellent pubs.

From the manager: Thankyou for taking the time to give us a review.

We are glad you enjoyed the views and scenery, and as an off grid site this is exactly what we are all about.

We appreciate that at present there are limited facilities, however this is documented on Pitch up so hope you were not mislead in anyway.
If you were to ever visit us again, the shower and toilet block will be up and running

Many Thanks

Liked Off grid camping. Great view across the lake at sunset.
If off grid is what you want, this is perfect.

Disliked Dependant on your Sat Nav, finding the site might be difficult.
My sat nav sent me to a gated road but my sons sent him correctly via the main road.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very generous area to camp over looking the lakes. Relatively flat, soft grass but had many rocks and gravely under the dirt layer, so do not bring cheap pegs.

Views were amazing across the lake and a public path to walk almost all around the lake (big sign saying a field was closed) but looked temporary.

There's a van that drives round and stops by the entrance and lots of checks, especially for the anglers. Clean, open and There's also a jetty if you like to have a splash. Although it doesnt state if wild swimming is allowed.

Will absolutely be back, great communication from Sally too.

Disliked The temporary toilet. The smell of the recyclable flushing water was gag inducing. Thankfully (hopefully) its only temporary and it is being used by others and the people fishing, it still worked xD

From the manager: Thanks so much for your thorough review.
We are really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.

We do understand the issues around the portable toilet and have put measures in place to try and overcome this until our toilet and shower block is complete.

We look forward to seeing you again soon
Many Thanks

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked nothing

Disliked just a field some chemical toilets and a water tap only booked as sister on site near by which i could not get on.
grass was a bit long and gets in van

From the manager: Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry the site did not meet your expectations. Copper Fox is an off-grid, back-to-basics campsite with only a water tap and chemical toilets currently. A toilet block is being built and expected to be finished in June. These limited facilities are clearly described in our Pitchup listing, as we offer a simple, natural camping experience.
We apologise that the grass was longer than ideal during your stay and appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Kind regards,

Lovely picturesque site, will be even better with a more toilet/shower

Local attractions

Copper Fox Camping is a great location for a break that mixes up countryside and city – as well as fishing on site and outdoor activities at Holme Pierrepont Country Park you may like to play a round at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) or take a vineyard tour at Wolds Wine Estate (20 minutes). There are several grand buildings dotted around too, including Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park (25 minutes) and Belvoir Castle (half an hour), plus family attractions like Floralands Farm Park (half an hour). Sports fans may also like to see if they can catch some actions at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground or the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground (both 10 minutes). For some city time, board one of the regular bus services to Nottingham to see the castle, the National Justice Museum and Nottingham Industrial Museum. Also don’t miss the chance to go beneath the city’s streets at City of Caves, a surprisingly large network that’s been in use since Anglo-Saxon times.
