  • Family-friendly rural Lincolnshire site in an old church paddock
  • 15 minutes' drive to Horncastle or Louth; half an hour to Skegness
  • Lovely views of the Lincolnshire Wolds; local pub five minutes' drive
Tucked in among peaceful parkland in the spectacular Lincolnshire Wolds, tents-only Oxcombe Campsite is a dog-friendly spot in a natural haven for outdoor-loving families. This quiet rural site is in an old church paddock with views of the historic All Saints Church and traditional farm buildings as well as the green countryside all around. A rural setting this may be, but it’s also a convenient one, close to plenty of attractions and amenities. The market towns of Horncastle and Louth (both within 15 minutes' drive) are close by for antiques shops, local produce and attractive streets to wander along. Closer to home, it’s a couple of miles to Belchford for the local pub, a cosy and traditional place with excellent food as well as good drinks. When you're ready for more activity, you can enjoy scenic walks or bike rides along bridle paths and the Viking Way, or venture to the coastline at Skegness (30 minutes) for seaside fun. For family days out, the area has plenty of options including adventure parks, wildlife centres, and beaches like Moggs Eye and Gibraltar Point. Back at base, all the essentials are in place for a comfortable stay, including proper showers, indoor toilets, a communal washing-up area with fridge access, and a cosy indoor seating area in ‘The Cowshed’, a converted traditional barn. You’re also welcome to pick fresh fruit from the orchard next door – as long as the birds haven't beaten you to it…

Church Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site was amazing, the owners were really friendly and catered for everyone's needs, the on site facilities were clean and in fully working order, what an absolute pleasure to stay there and will be re visiting again in the near future

Disliked: If I was to be a critic, the only thing I would say is that the campsite closed when they hosted a wedding but I fully understand why and agree, it's just a shame because of the dates and times that it closes

Church Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This is the 3rd time I've stayed here, a place to get away from it all, unwind and relax and just look at nature, the host are great I love how they turn the old barns into a useful purpose like the toilet and shower blocks. But you'll have to go and see because they're is always something to find.

Church Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Another brilliant stay at Oxcombe! Lovely walk around all saints church and enjoying the gardens.

Disliked: The only downside this year was the fact that people were arriving late and cars were on and off pitches at 9/10pm. Not ideal when kids are in bed.

Church Paddock non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This is our favourite site on which to camp, and because it is so tranquil, even our (near) teenager doesn’t moan, which many know would be a blessing. As it is a working farm, small animals such as chickens roam, and this time the Pea Hen had 6 chicks with her; such beauty! The Oxcombe site has a tiny magnificent church and graveyard, along with fruit trees and a welcome shelter which has a kettle, fridge and WIFI, usable for all guests. Two showers are an added bonus. The small field allows for around 15 pitches and has a limited number of fire pits for hire. Our 12-year-old said ‘this is the best place I’ve ever been’. What a shock! We adore it here and foresee we will be back many times in years to come.

Disliked: No dislikes at all, but some should be aware of animal sounds emanating from the working farm, as well as nature itself; bulls, cows, roosters, wood pigeons, owls, etc. sing and call through the night. Two toilets demand small queues at expected times, so best to plan for off-peak relief!

Local attractions

For kids, the first port of call may well be thrill rides at Fantasy Island (45 minutes’ drive). There are plenty of animal encounters to be had too, with lions, tigers and bears at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (40 minutes) and Wolds Wildlife Park (10 minutes). For something gentler, head to Northcote Heavy Horse Centre (25 minutes) to meet the Shire horses, or take a stroll along the seashore at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (40 minutes). There are plenty of heritage sites to visit nearby too. Gothic-era Lincoln Cathedral (45 minutes) once held the title of the tallest building in the country, and the walled gardens at 18th-century Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens (half an hour) are ablaze with wildflowers in spring. If nostalgia is more your style, you might like to browse antiques shops in the historic market towns of Horncastle and Louth (both minutes), or see a film at the Kinema in the Woods (30 minutes), a vintage-style cinema in a former farm building in Woodhall Spa.
