  • Peaceful 18-acre rural site five minutes' drive from Haxey
  • Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Scunthorpe within a half-hour drive
  • Dog training sessions on site
Lupine Woods Camping is a peaceful rural site spread over 18 acres of lovely north Lincolnshire countryside about five minutes’ drive from the village of Haxey. The site is tucked away at the end of a two-mile country track and well away from any main roads so it’s a fine spot for those seeking a bit of space and seclusion. It’s right next door to the Haxey Turbary Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, and has its own woodland walk so it’s also a splendid pick for photography and wildlife spotting. If you think all this sounds like the sort of thing your dog might enjoy very much, you’d probably be right – and indeed well-behaved dogs are most welcome here, with an exercise paddock to race about in and lots of excellent walks to take in nearby. On top of that, the site often runs courses in such skills as agility, scent work and obedience – have a chat with the folk here to see what might be running during your stay. Not got a canine chum to bring along? Perhaps you’d like to take the chance to spend some quiet time hanging out around your pitch – each one is pleasingly spacious, with easy ins and outs on flat, well-drained surfaces. There are plenty of water points scattered around the place, and guests have access to showers and toilets close to the pitches.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We loved the stay, lovely area to camp, everyone was friendly who was pitched up too, facilities all in good condition. We went just as a couple but we are returning in a week with our children for a family weekend, definitely going to be our go to for camping when we just need a night or two away from the world

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Quiet site, lovely owners pleasant and helpful but not overbearing. Nice large flat pitches with a wooded area onsite for walks and an enclosed dog area.

Disliked: Small toilet facilities is adequate but an upgrade to be able to gave more space between sink area and loos and shelving to put your toiletries on would be nice.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Upon arrival, Dan came to meet us and what an absolute spot on bloke he is! Gave us all the info we needed, explained local walking routes and let us choose any available pitch we wanted! The campsite is surprisingly very well hidden from civilisation. Nice big mostly even pitches. Lovely short and medium length walking routes. Literally didn't pass anyone whilst walking, mid afternoon, for a good hour and half. Was just the peaceful, tranquil setting we needed for a one night break from life! Thank you Dan, we look forward to hopefully coming back at some point to escape life once again 😄

Disliked: Nothing to dislike on our stay. Toilet block not the best, but its there, and kept clean - which is what counts at the end of the day.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very peaceful location surrounded by woodland. Pitches were very spacious with plenty of room for the kids to play. Lots of wildlife around such as buzzards, herons, and dozens of hedgehogs at night. The chap who runs it was nice and welcoming.

Disliked: The facilities let the site down. 1 shower and two toilets per male/female blocks. No handwash in the men’s block, and it all felt rundown and unclean. The potwash station had 1 sink and no hot water. You had to fill your bowl in the shower room! The station also had a funny smell. No WiFi, and being quite rural the signal was very poor, but we expected that.

From the manager: We are so pleased you liked our site, you certainly saw plenty of wildlife. I'm sorry you felt the facilities let you down. The only time it is tight is on bank holiday weekends. However, I just had a visit from a broadband rep, and Wi-Fi fibre is coming soon, so fingers crossed you get a better signal then.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Called when we got there and the man who ran the place (Dan I think his name was) showed us where we were pitching up, he let us have 2 pitches in the corner all to ourselves as we had 3 dogs and it was our first time camping, toilets and shower were kept pretty clean, little wooded area to take the dogs for a wander, an enclosed dog area to let the dogs off for a run

Disliked: Elson point was completely blocked and almost overflowing with poop which stunk, washing up area was out of order , with the showers and toilets being in a porter cabin, there could be more as there was only 1 shower and 2 toilets

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review - we are pleased to see that you will come again and look forward to seeing you soon. Don't worry - the Elson is sorted! Apologies for any inconvenience.

Local attractions

A couple of worthwhile attractions are within a 10-minute drive of this park, including the petting zoo and kids’ play area at Shepherds Place Farm. Travel the same distance for Epworth, the birthplace of John and Charles Wesley (10 minutes) too, or make tracks a tad further for transportation-related high jinks at The Trolley Bus Museum (20 minutes). Another ace selection of displays to add to the itinerary are at the aviation-themed Vulcan Experience (20 minutes), an open-air space housing two of the Cold War's most famed aircraft: the Avro Vulcan B2 and the McDonnell Douglas Phantom II. Prefer animals to aircraft? Yomp to Yorkshire Wildlife Park (25 minutes) and Messingham Zoo or meet the rescued creatures at Bransby Horses centre (40 minutes) instead. Top off your trip by traipsing around Brodsworth Hall and Gardens (40 minutes), one of England’s most intact Victorian country homes.
