Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park: New dog wash area

General

  • Peaceful Lincolnshire Wolds park less than a mile from Market Rasen
  • On the Lindsey Trail for cycling, walking and riding
  • Dog-friendly site with launderette and centrally heated bathroom block

If we were fortunate enough to possess our own nag, we'd surely be cantering forth to this campsite on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds as soon as ever we could. For Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park, run by Paul and Julia in a peaceful woodland setting, is bang on the Lindsey Trail, yielding miles upon miles of trotting (and ambling, and cycling) opportunities through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Walesby is a quiet park, used as a base by clever campers who want to explore the attractions and villages of the Wolds or delve into local countryside pursuits like fishing, golf and wildlife watching. It's less than a mile from Market Rasen for supplies, shops, pubs, fishing, golf and more nags at Market Rasen Racecourse, and within driving distance of Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast.

The pitch price includes free hot water for the centrally heated shower and loo block. Walesby Woodlands also has a launderette, wifi, Calor gas for sale and an automatic security barrier for added safety. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Julia and Paul run a café on site at the weekends in high season and over bank holidays (except Easter); at other times, Market Rasen should have most of what you need, including traditional shops, a farm shop, bakery, butcher and a supermarket.

Please note that the owners are keen not to disturb resident wildlife so they keep light levels low by night. The toilet block is well-lit but it's a clever idea to pack a torch to find your way there.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The café is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Big secure site, immaculate, great play area for the kids, visiting coffee van that sold hot chocolates, cakes and sandwiches between 10-1, fab facilities, extremely clean and Covid compliant. Oh, and free wifi!! Kept the kids happy!

15 minute walk into Markey Rasen, or you could do the scenic route.

A fab sweet shop in Market Rasen and plenty of other places to eat too.

We only did a two night stay but would definitely return.

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers shut down for 2 hours between 12-2 for cleaning. We’d arrived just before 12 after almost 2 hours in the van so had to keep it in while trying to get the awning set up.

Ok if you’re in a caravan or motor home but not if you’re in a tent.

Thankfully we had a ‘potty’, although we try to avoid using it, but worth noting if you have kids but no alternative.

The washing facilities are spotless though, but maybe just shutdown each side for an hour each?

Local attractions

For day trips, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast can be reached in about an hour in the car and lovely Lincoln is within about 40 minutes' drive.

If you prefer to stick closer to home on your own feet/wheels, Walesby Woodlands is on both the 75 miles of the Lindsey Trail and the National Cycle Trail One. The Viking Way, from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, also passes near the park, as does the 78-mile circular Lincolnshire Wolds Way (handily broken into daily sections of about six hours each).

Lincolnshire is pretty nifty for market towns and shopping, like at Louth, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, all well within an hour's drive; be sure and wheel back many samples from Louth's award-winning The Cheese Shop.

At Woodhall Spa, have an old-fashioned evening out at Kinema in the Woods, entertaining those around the area since 1922 and with its own 18th-century organ – and organist.
