  • Adults-only shepherd’s huts five minutes’ drive from Louth
  • Cleethorpes Beach 35 minutes’ drive; Lincoln 50 minutes
  • In-cabin kitchenette; communal kitchen with fridge; private bathroom
An intimate glamping holiday on the outskirts of Louth (five minutes’ drive), gateway to the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape? Sounds like just the ticket for a loved-up couple. And at Churchside Huts, you know you’ll be getting quality time together, undisturbed by squabbling children or barking dogs, for the site welcomes only adult guests. (Single-sex couples are welcome too, of course.) Accommodation is in an upcycled wooden shepherd’s hut set in a private area within the extensive gardens of the owners’ home. The garden attracts all sorts of local wildlife, so you might want to spend a portion of an evening being very still and seeing if you can spot a visiting pheasant, squirrel or fox. The other portion of the evening might be spent stargazing (this area is renowned for its dark skies). In addition to a comfortable double bed (under stained-glass windows), the hut has a seating area and a kitchenette with a sink, kettle, gas hob and coffee maker. If you plan on stocking up on ingredients for your meals, the shared covered kitchen has a communal fridge, as well as a microwave, toaster and dishwasher, plus a large dining table and a woodburner around which you might meet the other residents. If you want to keep yourselves to yourselves, there is a firepit and barbecue outside each cabin. Your private washroom (in a separate building) comes with a modern shower, toilet and washbasin, with heated towel rail.

Local attractions

The streets of the Georgian market town of Louth (five minutes’ drive) are lined with independent shops and eateries. The exhibits at the Louth Museum shine a light on local history – from archaeology, to key industries such as brickmaking and carpet weaving. On a Saturday night, check out the talent playing at the Louth Jazz Club. Cleethorpes (35 minutes) has a wide sandy beach with deckchairs for hire and a pier dating from the Victorian era, but since rebuilt. Stroll along the promenade while munching on chips; head to the boating lake for a pedalo session; or indulge in a spot of birdwatching at Cleethorpes Country Park. The historic city of Lincoln (50 minutes) is dominated by the towers of the cathedral. Not far from this impressive Gothic building are the ruins of Lincoln Castle, with a walkway atop the medieval battlements and a copy of the Magna Carta. Just outside the city, the International Bomber Command Centre honours the RAF pilots who lost their lives during World War II.
