  • Adults-only glampsite on the scenic Humber estuary
  • Half an hour from Hull for museums, galleries and nights out
  • Fully licensed bar The Alpaca Arms on site
Plenty of soothing greenery, friendly alpacas to meet and no pesky kids scurrying around breaking the peace… yes please. If that sounds like a top getaway for your good and deserving self, break now for a stay at Marshlands Alpacas, an adults-only site with a fully licensed bar on site named The Alpaca Arms. It's less than five minutes’ drive from the Lincolnshire village of New Holland. A five minute-stroll from New Holland and the banks of the Humber estuary, this is a prime spot to use as a base for Lincolnshire explores, with plenty of peaceful trails nearby to follow. Walk or bike by the river’s edge to soak up views of the wildlife and passing boats, or wander along one of the public footpaths for easy jaunts to the surrounding villages. For a touch of grandeur, head instead to Normanby Hall and Gardens, half an hour away, to stroll among Victorian outbuildings, spot Bambi and pals in the deer park and tour the grand old pile of bricks at its centre. If the deer aren't dear to your heart, hang out with the fluffy herd of alpacas at Marshlands instead. As the evening draws in, there are barbecues to rent on site to keep bodies well fed for more explores, and scenic views across the countryside add a hint of the pastoral to this already peaceful spot. Not sweet enough? Nab a jar of marshlands honey on site as a welcome souvenir.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Absolutely nothing not to like about this site. Compact without being crowded, so even when busy there's tonnes of room but you never have to walk far for amenities. Nicest facilities I think I've seen at such a reasonably priced site - and always totally spotless. Both Julie & Gary warm, friendly and welcoming (as well as being hilarious!), both very hands on with their work. Their campers are considered friends, and they have many regular returners. Nicely situated with food shops no more than ten minutes drive, plus walking distance to train station and less than 10 miles from major motorway connections.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Pub area and staff ,animals were good but £5 to feed them was a little bit to expensive . Local shop very good.

Disliked: Showers dirty and over night noises right next to the docks. Poor surrounding local pub shut

From the manager: Fully licensed bar on site, the fact the old village pub is no more is not really relevant. Facilities are cleaned daily, and checked regularly, by us the owners. Apologies for you obviously following someone who filled the plughole with hair. As per your "mucky pic" As for an Alpaca experience being a very expensive £5 good luck getting it anywhere else for under £30. And your overnight noise was our boring surroundings of arable fields being harvested.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: This is a very unique place to stay. The site is spotless, from the very generous pitches to the facilities. The small on site pub is a nice touch if you fancy a drink in the evening - closed during the day - bingo Monday evenings where you can meet the locals and some fellow campers. Other events are displayed on the board outside. The owners are lovely, friendly and down to earth which is refreshing. Oh my word the Alpacas are entertaining, all different, photogenic and very funny. There is a newly opened convenience store, Chinese takeaway - that deliver to your pitch - and a cafe nearby. Tip: check open and closing times. If you want a get away from it all site then look no further. We really enjoyed it.

Disliked: There was continuous noise during the night. Not on the site. I couldn't figure out if it was from the industrial estate nearby or a main road. I guess noise carries given the location so can't be helped. Didn't spoil our stay.

Liked: We had a great weekend at Marshland alpacas site, Julie and Gary very friendly and welcoming hosts, and it was lovely to see the alpacas too. Very quiet and friendly camp site. Fantastic atmosphere in the on-site clubhouse and there’s a Chinese takeaway and local shop nearby. Will definitely be returning.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: From the moment we got there we were made to feel welcome. Julie the owner was making burgers on the barbecue which were delicious. The small pub on site is great and we actually won the music quiz on the Saturday night ( first time for everything haha). The site is lovely and the showers/toilets are spotless. We go away to different campsites nearly every weekend but this is one we will definitely be returning too.

Disliked: There is nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

Without any kids in tow, having hols full of grownup-sanctioned adventure is a cinch: head towards Grimsby (half an hour's drive) for tours and tastings at Rutlands Arms Old Mill Brewery and a stop at the taproom of the town’s newest brewery, Docks Beers. Otherwise, venture towards Hull for sedate turns around pleasant gardens, stately manors, museums galore and a must-do stop at The Deep aquarium. Anyone who’s after something more high-adrenaline and doesn’t mind a slightly longer drive should make the hour and 20-minute journey down the coast to Ingoldmells for a day at Fantasy Island theme park, or continue on to Skeggy for stock car and banger racing at Skegness Raceway. For days in the great wide open, there’s plenty of choice: the Lincolnshire Wolds are about half an hour away for hiking, biking, riding and geocaching, or a coastal detour to Cleethorpes and its seaside stretch is a top pick for beach and sandcastle days. A trip to Spurn National Nature Reserve shouldn’t be spurned either, even if it’s over an hour away – take a stroll along the sand island for slow-paced explores or sign up for a safari or wildlife-spotting boat trip to see it at its best.
