Upper House Farm: 2 Person bell tent

General

  • Peaceful site on a dog-friendly working farm in rural Herefordshire
  • A 20-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye; 35 minutes from Hereford
  • Bell tents with gorgeous views over the Golden Valley

Simple pleasures, stunning scenery and great swathes of space are all on the menu at Upper House Farm, a peaceful Herefordshire spot above a working farm 10 minutes’ drive from Peterchurch (a tiny village but one that’s big enough to have its own convenience store for provisions).

The bell tents at this family farm come with access to toilets and showers, and each unit has a decking area, firepit, outdoor cooking facilities and a comfy bed. They’ve also got gorgeous views out over the Golden Valley – splendid at any time of day but perhaps at their best come sunset hour.

The glamping area only accommodates a small number of guests, so it never feels crowded, and kids can run about without tripping over other people. Beyond the bell tents are a fab 100 acres of farm estate that you’re welcome to wander around. With dog friendly pitches (dogs to be kept on a lead when on site), the area is a haven for dog walking too.

And beyond that… well, there’s much more to explore, with lots of local footpaths crossing the valleys, local hiking up the Hay Bluff and Black Mountain and the whole of the Brecon Beacons National Park just past those peaks. Hay-on-Wye and the river’s canoe trips are about 20 minutes’ drive away too.

Please note

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Great place in the middle of nowhere- buts that the point. 1 tap and two toilets and lots of great views and peace and quiet in the shadow of the black mountains. Great night sky. 20 mins from Hay by car but you could be anywhere. I was on my motorbike and great to get away from these commercial sites. It was more like wild camping. Even the sheep escaped into the field…

We stayed for two nights. The view is amazing, the owners were wonderful and if you don't mind back to basics camping, you'll have a lovely time. Our daughter loved the sheepdogs and the calves, especially the visit to the barn. The facilities are basic, but clean and the access on the field is fine if taken slowly. Our normal estate car managed fine. All communications were very good and we were even given a bottle of drinking water in the morning, as the tap water was ok for washing and dishes only. Overall a brilliant stay, if you like the simple side of camping. P.s. great night skies, all stars and no light pollution!
