  • Exclusive occupancy of a quiet bell tent site for adults or families
  • On the edge of the Forest of Dean; 10 mins' drive to a Go Ape course
  • Easy access to walks; gas/charcoal barbecues and a woodburning stove
Settling down in a single Stargazer bell tent with views out over the River Severn and exclusive occupancy of a quarter-acre site is a pretty surefire way to ensure you’ve got a peaceful place to stay. And it’s a good thing too, because you’ll be needing a good night’s rest to make the most of all the many things there are to do in the area around Forest Glamping Retreat. This well-maintained Gloucestershire Stargazer is in a quiet spot about 10 minutes’ drive from Lydney and half an hour from Gloucester, with fabulous views out over surrounding fields towards the River Severn. Guests will be relaxing in a quarter of an acre of space so there’s plenty of room to soak up all those views, light a campfire and spend the evening looking up at the glittering night sky. Inside the tent, there's a large, luxury kingsize bed (where bedding is provided for two adults only) and a solar-powered connection which is suitable for charging a phone or laptop. The Stargazer is suitable for either two adults or a family with two adults and up to two kids. If you're bringing kids, please also bring your own bedding and blow-up bed (or similar). Just-married couples who want to spend one night on a mini-moon are very welcome, as are those celebrating a special occasion or anniversary. The set-up includes access to a flushable toilet, a hot-water shower and a washing-up area, but please note that the hot water is only for the shower. Storage for bicycles in a secure lockup overnight is available if you ask the site when you arrive (note that there are competitive mountain biking trails, jumps and family bike trails a short drive away). There's also a small woodburning stove inside the tent and gas or charcoal barbecues for cooking. Filling your days should be no problem around this area, with both the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close by and a whole lot of options for walks, bike rides, canoeing, fishing and golf along with attractions like Tintern Abbey and Goodrich Castle. A handful of pubs and takeaways are scattered around local villages. Court Farm Lakes, a facility with wild swimming and paddleboarding, is also within a 20-minute drive of the site.

Stargazer bell tent

Liked: Great hosts. Beautiful views in a large and comfortable bell tent. Comes with everything you need and a porcelain toilet 👍👍

Disliked: The toilet lock is too high so everytime my son wanted the toilet, I'd have to open it for him, then lock him inside and wait until he is finished to let him out. Please put a handle lower down so children can go by themselves.

From the manager: Thank you! We never thought of this and will sort out the lock straight away. We are grateful that you took the trouble to write a review

Stargazer bell tent

Liked: Absolutely beautiful site with so many welcoming and homely touches made by the owners. Bed was comfortable and the tent was warm and light. The log burner inside was a lovely touch. So much effort has been put in to make even a chemical toilet feel like a relaxing facility to use. Beautiful views and set in a really quiet and peaceful location!

Local attractions

Getting out for a walk is very straightforward here – you can access trails both long and short from the site or set off to one of the many trails in the area. Some favourite spots in the Forest of Dean include Soudley Ponds, Mallards Pike (both 10 minutes' drive) or Cannop Ponds (15 minutes), along with the atmospheric Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail (15 minutes). To get a bit more adrenaline flowing, try mountain bike outings from the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre (15 minutes) – it’s got bike hire for the skills area and cross-country trails as well as more easy-going trails (with e-bikes to hire too). If you’re with a gang of pals, you may like to try the games at Forest of Dean Paintball & Airsoft (15 minutes' walk); there are also Go Ape adventure courses at Mallards Pike (10 minutes) and Beechenhurst (15 minutes). If you'd like to drop by at a historic site while you’re in the area there are some great walks that take in Tintern Abbey (half an hour) or you could tack on a visit to the ruins of Goodrich Castle while canoeing around Symonds Yat (35 minutes).
