  • Scenic dog-friendly site across the road from a 15th-century pub
  • Five minutes’ drive to get to the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Beauty
  • Rural setting 20 minutes’ drive from Cheltenham; opposite a bus stop
Hunting down a getaway near the Cotswolds? If access to high-quality pub grub and hill views are quite high on your priorities, Hobnails Piece is here to deliver. The dog-friendly site is five minutes’ drive from the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one of the most splendid parts? It’s across the road from a 15th-century pub with a big beer garden, kids’ play area, real ales and This site provides seasonal hire of a rural grassland camping pitch situated within one of the site’s plots. Staying opposite to the long-established, Grade II-listed pub is certainly a big perk to staying down here. The pub serves traditional pub food, so you’ll have somewhere easy to eat out. Another big pull is the scenery over the surrounding hills. The site is on a gated road and has a field setting in a rural pasture, so the setting is rather splendid. There’s parking at the pub and then it’s a short walk to reach the land. There’s also a handy bus stop on the road, just behind the hedge, if you’d like to leave the car behind while you set about exploring. While the local village is pretty Washbourne (there’s another car park here), cities within driving distance include Cheltenham (20 minutes’ drive), Bristol (an hour and five minutes) and Oxford (an hour and a half).

Local attractions

Whether it’s a day at the races or catching the latest shows to grace the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham (20 minutes’ drive) is an excellent place to get your cultural fix. Bristol (an hour and five minutes), too, since the city has street art, an arts-centric maritime area and plenty of museums and art galleries. In the Cotswolds AONB, you might want to have a look around castle rooms or an old tomb at Sudeley Castle (10 minutes). Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre (half an hour) has 56 acres of trees from across the globe, with plenty of trails to take you through the trunks. First, perhaps you’ll want to tackle the many peaks in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (45 minutes) or even try paragliding there? Oxford (an hour and a half) may be further afield, but punting activities on the river Cherwell or crafting a sightseeing itinerary around its various spires and historic sites might be well worth the distance.
