It is a lovely place. Just not worth the money I paid in my opinion.
Doris shepherd's hut (two person, hot tub)
Liked Me and my partner stayed in the Doris hut for 2 nights. The hut and the surroundings were lovely and at night, the stars were out in full force.
When I arrived I read through the arrival email again to find the key. It stated 'key code located on side of the building'. After I'd read the whole email, it came across as the building meant the cottage, for safety reasons maybe. So I started walking back up the gravel path after I'd emailed again asking about the key. I got an email back before I reached the road saying the key box was on the side of the hut! If it had said 'hut' first, it would have been clearer. I finally found the key!
I emailed Mel the night before and again in the morning before arriving, who was good at responding, and asked if she could start warming the hot tub up as I'd read other reviews and she did with no problem. Unfortunately when I got there the fire of the hot tub had died down but it was also freezing in the hut, so lighting that fire was my first priority.
I read the guest book after working out how to put some lanterns on. It was like a cryptic clue book, having to look for fire lighters, a lighter in a tin on the book shelf that wasn't there, then having to email Mel again. I felt like a pain but I'd driven nearly 4 hours, it was dark and cold.
We had wood supplied that was meant to last all our stay but we went and bought more on Saturday as it was so cold and the wood we had been provided didn't last, as the hot tub used a lot and the log fire.
The refreshments provided (tea, coffee, out of date Biscoff biscuits that had 5/2/2025 on) were in quite a big basket all set out nicely, just looked sparce. My partner ate one of the biscuits before I could tell him they were 9 month out of date. The fresh bottle of milk in the fridge were a nice touch, we didn't use it though. I have stayed in other huts where you get a fresh breakfast basket with fresh eggs, fresh baked bread, butter, jam, beans, home baked rockyroad. All included in the price too.
We struggled with the WiFi. I finally connected to it but then it didn't work anyway and my partners phone just couldn't connect to it and he has daughters who ring him on a Friday night from Canada, so that wasn't able to happen.
The toilet block was a short walk away which was fine, full of ladybirds huddled together, this can't be helped at a campsite out in the wild, but if you're not too keen on bugs, you wouldn't have set foot in there. I couldn't get the tap in there to work either, so I used baby wipes to wash my hands.
The shower block was a little walk away, down the grass hill, again this were fine but we thought a path would be more helpful down to it. The shower block was freezing (again, the weather can't be helped) there is an electric radiator in there but it didn't warm it up in the time we spent having a shower. The hairdryer that is provided is a good touch. This warmed us up a little. The shower water was warm, not hot but the hot tap at the side of the shower block where you wash your plates etc, was hot, like you'd want your shower to be.
The hut and the shower were spotlessly clean. The bedding smelt lovely. There were quirky bits in the hut on the walls and shelves.
The hot tub was the main point of me booking this weekend away but we went in it for all of 20 minutes on the Saturday evening. We lit it and waited 2.5 hours with my partner going out to stoke the fire up as it kept going out as the rain must have been dripping through the holes on the side of the chimney flue. It was like a warm bath on the top of the water but when you put your feet anywhere near the bottom, it was cold water. So I was gutted about that as we just went to relax.
Disliked The site won't let me upload any pictures.

From the manager: Morning,
Thank you so much for your review, I was nothing but responsive to your emails and went out of my way to help you in anyway that I could.
If you had any issues I tried to help as much as I possibly could.
The agents take a commission from your payment so I actually got less than £100 per night, but still spent 2 hours heating the hot tub for your arrival on the Friday afternoon (free of charge - most places charge for this service) as I knew it was a cold day and thought you would appreciate it. Not at any point did you ask me on the saturday for any help or say that you could not get the hot tub going.
I am sorry but I must have used an out of date biscuit, there must have been a lose one in the cleaning bag as I actually ate one myself the other day and there was nothing wrong with them.
Please could you also confirm what the problem was with the WIFI as the code I gave you has perfect WIFI?
My husband went down on the Thursday evening and put the heaters on in both Shower rooms so that they were not cold in the morning.
You have also marked me down on customer service, which in 3 years has never happened, so I would appreciate your feedback on that also please?
It clearly states that the toilet block is run off solar and the only way to use the light is by switching on the solar box, which I know jad power as I checked it before you arrived. So the tap was definitely working and there is no reason why you couldn’t wash your hands.
Both of our numbers are in the book so any issues could have been discussed at any point during your stay, which you only mentioned only a few of these points to me.
Maybe next time you stay at a small business, give them the feedback directly so they actually get chance to talk it through. As these are detrimental comments to a small business like mine.
We are always happy to help our customers and I am really disappointed with the negative feedback that you have left.

Had the most lovely weekend in…
Daisy shepherd's hut (four person, hot tub)
Liked Had the most lovely weekend in Daisy! It was my first time staying somewhere like this and we loved every moment. Despite the cold, wet weather and storms, it actually made the stay feel even cosier and the dog loved having the garden to roam. Mel came to check everything was okay on the first night when the weather was especially bad, and we really appreciated the kindness and attentiveness. The location was perfect not too far from anything, yet with lovely walks nearby. It was exactly the escape we were looking for, and we’ll definitely be returning. Thank you again to Mel for everything!

Doris shepherd's hut (two person, hot tub)
Liked Had an amazing stay at this accommodation with a difference! Set in quiet and peaceful grounds, this was the perfect location for a nice, relaxing break. The hot tub was a nice touch and just what was needed after a long drive. The BBQ and camp kitchen are well setup and have just what you need. Hosts were really friendly - all in all, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here.

A peaceful, comfortable and relaxing stay.
Doris shepherd's hut (two person, hot tub)
Liked We had a brilliant stay and there was nothing we didn’t like. Lots of great attention to detail such as things for the dog, kitchen things and a lovely cozy cabin. The bed was super-comfy and the bathroom was surprisingly nice for ‘glamping’. The hot tub was easy to use and a highlight. Mel was a great host, helping us connect to the WiFi and giving us tips on places to go.
Disliked Nothing we didn’t like.
