Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely small quiet site with good sized pitches. Access to good walks along the river. Great coffee shop on the farm with the yummiest cakes and excellent pub down the road for food

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean site & toilet block, well set out. Easy to walk to as just off the Severn Way trail, beats wild camping in the area.

Disliked: Contactless sign-in at the site was a bit odd, sent a text to the number to no replay then wasn't really sure where to pitch. Like others have said pitch numbers would be a good idea.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Small quiet site with well marked out spaces bordered by laurel hedges which gave a feeling of privacy. Clear instructions on what to do on arrival (text owners) but this is reliant on a signal. Easy access to lovely walks and village including the farm's own cafe and the buzzy Red Lion pub.

Disliked: Dislike is far too strong a word but clearer labelling of the various waste bins would have been helpful. We took our recycling and landfill waste home with us, as we were not sure, which was fine as we were going home but had we been moving onto another site this might not have worked so well. I would have appreciated a shelf in the ladies shower room to put bits on (toothbrush etc) when showering but this is such a minor issue and it may well not be thought necessary by anyone else.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: Very peaceful site on a working farm, short walk to the village with a great pub for food. Hot shower, plug for hairdryer. Walks along the Severn. Dog friendly. Good pitch rate.

Disliked: Contactless entry meant that our gravel pitch booked had been taken and we had to park our campervan on one of the grass pitches with EHU. Although the toilets had a squidgy blade to wipe down after use, would be better if there was a mop also as there was ingrained muck on the tiles, it was a wet camping trip.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The site was just the right size, we had a grass pitch with ehp and it was a great size. We stayed outside reading until midnight and it was very peaceful. If you come out of the site and right then through a large gate, there is a lovely walk up to the edge of the river seven and then there is a big loop to walk which is really nice and quiet. Toilets were good, toilet and shower in a room together - one for males and one for females and then a separate loo on its own, never had to wait to use either. Ground are well kept and the hedges stop the breeze when it gets chilly. The owners have a little cafe serving fantastic coffee and cakes - open Friday to Sunday I believe. Just to note that there is little to no signal and no WiFi… but I think we all need that every now and again

Disliked: Absolutely nothing

Local attractions

West End Farm Campsite's local village is Arlingham, also in the River Severn's horseshoe bend and just off Junction 13 of the M5. The area around the village is fab walking and cycling land, of public footpaths, riverside ambles and flat peaceful roads – all set among first-class mid-Wales scenery. (Don't know where to start? Ask at the Red Lion for details of their hare, salmon, cattle and skylark wanders.) A couple of miles from the farm is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, running between Sharpness and the old docks of Gloucester. It's a pleasant place to while away a few meandering hours, particularly around Patch Bridge, close to the Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge which has the world's biggest collection of captive wildfowl. Other local options are Berkeley and the Edward Jenner Museum, where the clever chap first figured out vaccination, and Berkeley Castle, where poor old Edward 2 met his grisly end. Gloucester Cathedral is nine miles from the site; a little further afield are the Norman castle of Goodrich and the Tudor National Trust-managed house of Newark Park.
