  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

Spanking clean, fab facilities, handy for M5/Cheltenham/Gloucester with buses aplenty. Pitches are great, staff a treat. Expect a bit of distant traffic/plane hum. Free WiFi. Top spot!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very clean and well maintained site. Shower block extremely clean which is nice to see.
Staff are also friendly and helpful. The bus stop is just outside the site which is also good for us as we don't like driving anywhere. We will definitely stop again.

Disliked Too close to the airport, but it wasn't a major issue. You just get the occasional loud plane flying over.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Mark,

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the spotless facilities, the friendly team, and the convenience of the bus stop right outside the site. It’s great to know you felt well looked after and comfortable during your stay.

We appreciate your note about the nearby airport—thankfully, the occasional plane doesn’t usually last long, but we’re glad it didn’t affect your overall experience.

Warm Regards,
The Briarfields Team

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely adults only site. Great facilities....new and spotless. Good size pitch, some hedging between pitches so felt private. Great location for the bus (no 94) to Cheltenham (2 miles...we walked there, bus back) and Gloucester (6 miles)....bus stops outside the camp site. Asda a short walk away. KFC and a Harvester also nearby....book the Harvester...they were understaffed and weren't accepting walk-ins when we went)

Disliked Only down side was the noisy road next to the site....mainly during the day.

From the manager: Dear Sandra,

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the spotless facilities, spacious pitches, and handy location for exploring Cheltenham and Gloucester.

We completely understand about the nearby road and appreciate you mentioning it thankfully, it tends to be quieter in the evenings so guests can still enjoy a peaceful night.

We’d be delighted to welcome you back on your next trip to the area. Thank you again for your kind words!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely campsite with easy access to the M5 the pitches are level and have privacy hedges
The check in was easy and the site has number plate recognition.
The toilets and showers are lovely and modern and kept clean and tidy i loved the piped music so much nicer than listening to your neighbours ablutions
The site has an information room with detailed maps of local walks and pubs direct from the site
The site provides free WiFi but we didn't use it as our own WiFi worked fine
We got the 94 bus to Gloucester direct from the site entrance which runs every 15 mins up until around midnight
We walked to Cheltenham which is around 3 miles along the cycle path
We will definitely visit again so handy for Cheltenham races and festivals

Disliked Not a dislike as such but due having easy access to the M5 there is some distant road noise ( motorbikes mainly) but it didn't spoil our stay and wouldn't stop us visiting again

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Michael,

We also appreciate your understanding about the occasional distant road noise thank you for mentioning that it didn’t impact your enjoyment.

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
