What customers say

Great, spacious pitches with good privacy. Handy water/electric. Good for walks, though some say it needs a bit of a tidy-up. Toilet/shower lack noted, and the "Country Club" name is a bit of a stretch.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked This was our third long weekend away here this year. We love it.
The large private gravel pitches are great for us with our twin axel caravan and awning.
We like the fact there is only 10 pitches and adult only so, not too busy and noisy.
Electric and water hook up on the pitch.
The woodland walk overlooking the fishing lakes and footpaths from and around the site are lovely.
Breakfast at the Lakeside cafe is delicious.
The views of the surrounding area are amazing. We just feel thankful it's on our doorstep.
The Peak District just a short drive away to explore.
The text on the morning of travel from Joanne with info on directions and gate codes, rules and contact numbers is great. If we needed to ask anything, there was a quick response.
We have recommended the site to our caravan friends for location and price.

Disliked If we have to find negatives, we would say which, has been flagged in other comments, so nothing new. The lack of the amenities block. I know there are caravanners out there who prefer to use site facilities for washing up and showers/toilets. The block is there but I guess in need of maintenance. We tend to use our caravan so that doesn't bother us.
Although we are given directions, signage isn't obvious (small sign saying private Barlow country club) once you have gone through the gate. I know the first time we arrived we thought we'd taken a wrong turn 😆
Some have said WiFi spotty/poor signal and this will bother some. We have games and dvds we take if struggling to connect. Oh and talk to eachother 😆
If people are wanting to research things to do while there, WiFi issues wouldn't help. Perhaps and information board on the wall outside the office about local events and where to visit. A map of walking routes and good dog walking areas etc. Office closed whenever we have been so info with opening times on the board would be good.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Beautifully quiet, natural countryside feel, private pitch, not overcrowded, location for village, water and electricity on pitch, self check in and out, gate secured at night, walks around fishing ponds and great cafe.

Disliked Some pitches were double the size, arrived later so only small pitch left, hedges were very overgrown making pitch even smaller, no grey waste, toilet facilities would be welcomed, old wooden decaying buildings make it look unloved and unwelcoming.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Big space for van .very quiet as only people on site.
Lovely meal at pub .

Disliked No shower block.
Not a easy walk with fishing tackle to ponds. little plank across river made it so we could only carry so much at a time .
Use to be a fantastic camping ground gone down hill .
No phone signal or WiFi. We carry EpiPens so it's a important one that we can ring a ambulance if needed.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Very quite and beautiful and privet due to the high hedges between pitch’s.

Disliked Their are only of things (1) no signage saying you have arrived and no onsite (2) reception and no wardens (3) no toilet and shower and pot washing or laundry or gray waist disposal.

Local attractions

Checking out Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive) is a must while you’re here – this stately home is set in vast parkland edged by woodland, craggy hills and heather moors, so it’s an excellent choice for explores on foot. Inside the posh pad is a sizeable collection of art, ranging from Old Masters' drawings to neoclassical sculptures. Bakewell – yes, home of the tasty tarts – is also a sweet spot for a stroll thanks to having old cottages, tiny alleys and tucked-away courtyards to totter around, as well as a river to roam beside (20 minutes). If you’re an eager trekker seeking more of a challenge, mosey along the Monsal Trail starting from Coombs Viaduct, a mile south east of Bakewell, and leading 8.5 miles to Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, passing by Peak District hotspots like Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill and Litton Mill enroute. Further on (around 50 minutes) are other popular places for pottering around, like Dovedale valley with its wooded ravine and the 517-metre Mam Tor hill near Castleton, christened one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak by 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes because of its dreamy views.
