  • Pop-up wild camping in Derbyshire’s lovely Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute walk into Castleton; Chatsworth House half an hour’s drive
  • Grass pitches with pubs and cafés nearby, plus direct access to walks
Looking for a peaceful rural stay amid spectacular Peak District countryside views? You could have hit the jackpot at Treaks Pringle Camping, a pop-up site with a true wild-camping vibe on the very outskirts of Castleton, one of the prettiest and most popular villages in the national park. This peaceful site is surrounded by fields and has gorgeous views whichever way you turn. From the camping fields, you can spot dramatic Winnats Pass, and there are myriad attractions like the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive) and Peveril Castle (five minutes) close by. Any long-distance walkers looking for an overnight stop? Treaks Pringle Camping is close to Edale (10 minutes) and the start of the Pennine Way. Basic facilities on site stretch to a washing-up area and a toilet block, so you’ll need to bring everything with you, including torches for finding your way around after dark. Don’t forget the barbecue if you fancy cooking alfresco, but there are also pubs and cafés aplenty in Castleton. The main road through Castleton is a 10-minute walk away so you don’t need to bother with the car. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on leads at all times – and do note that the pitches here are on a slight slope.

Liked owner is very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Toilets and washing up area was very clean and kept clean the whole time.
Noise rules were followed and the other campers were friendly.
Located in an ideal spot right next to the village and the surrounding countryside.

Disliked Campsite is on a slope which meant we had to keep that in mind while cooking.
However that was the only complaint, we will be revisiting 🙂

Families can pack a picnic and have a gentle amble through woods and moorland at Wyming Brook Nature Reserve (half an hour’s drive). Once you’ve wandered the moors, tors and dales of the Peak District National Park, it’s time to head below ground on a boat journey through the former tin mine in Speedwell Cavern (15 minutes’ walk). See deposits of rare Blue John stone running through the caves at Treak Cliff Cavern (15 minutes), or take a guided tour of the vast subterranean complex rich in the same stone at the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive).
