What customers say

Grand spot altogether, handy for a stroll with a few pubs nearby. Pitches are good and flat. Staff are grand. Facilities are grand but some say a bit dated and a whiff of drainage now and then. A bit of road and plane noise for some too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly welcome and great information given about the local are. The site is very close to a restaurant/bar as well as a local cafe. We must have enjoyed as we booked an extra night.

Disliked With the site being busy the facilities are on the small side. However what there was was clean and that's what really matters.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly and relaxed. We stayed on a Sunday and it was quiet too which was great.

Disliked The lights in the toilet / shower block are on a sensor. I went for a shower at 10pm and the lights went out on me leaving me in complete darkness mid shower. I had to come out into the middle of the room - out of shower cubicle before the sensor worked and the lights came on. I would say the light stayed on for 5 mins at a time.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The location is fantastic, Tom the owner of the field was really kind, he even sourced some milk for me to have a cup of tea in the morning. We stargazed at night and regretted not bringing a telescope!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Very powerful, hot showers. Large, level pitch. Logs sold at very reasonable price.

Disliked Constant traffic noise. Constant smell of the sewerage system. Poor bin/rubbish system (bin bags stacked in a pile by the bin).

Electric grass pitch

Liked A bit more than basic but everything we needed for a couple of nights or more. Toilets and showers were absolutely fine, not horrendous as suggested by other reviews!

Disliked A smell of sewage but this wasn’t consistent so not too terrible.

Local attractions

If your countryside break isn’t complete without a cute farm animal or two, start with an outing to Bluebell Dairy Ice Cream Farm (25 minutes’ drive), where you can meet Highland cows, miniature ponies, pygmy goats and kunekune pigs before sampling something from the range of tempting ice creams. Alternatively, meet the fluffy alpacas and maybe even take some for a walk at Charnwood Forest Alpacas (20 minutes). Walking trails nearby include routes along the banks of the Trent & Mersey Canal and the River Trent. A particularly intriguing route goes via Anchor Church Caves (10 minutes) – a series of natural caves historically used as a worship spot for Christians evading persecution. For a bit more history, head to the 1620s House and Garden at Donington le Heath (half an hour), visit National Trust - Calke Abbey (20 minutes) or check out the vintage aircraft at East Midlands Aeropark (20 minutes). And if you haven’t explored Derby (20 minutes) yet, it’s worth noting there are some great museums there too, including the Museum of Making and Derby Computer Museum.
