  • No-frills farm campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Winnersh in Berkshire
  • LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort half an hour’s drive; Thorpe Park 45 minutes
  • Camping field bounded by woodland; two pubs within five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for a slice of country living under canvas, but equally well can’t face pottering down too many country lanes, Ellis' Hill Farm Campsite will suit you very well. At 10 minutes’ drive from Winnersh in Berkshire, this peaceful farm site is close to all the major road networks. Even better news – for the kids if not your pocket – it’s within half an hour by car of family attractions like LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort and Beale Wildlife Park. Just double check the directions on your way to this splendid place, as Satnavs may direct you through a ford and you don't want to end up with a soggy bottom. Sheltered by tall trees, the camping field is mostly level, but has a few undulations. You’ll need sturdy footwear, and as it’s only mown once a year, if you’re a repeat visitor you’ll see how the meadow grows and changes through the seasons. Also be aware that there’s no electricity to hand, so bring torches for wandering around your pitch after dark. The surrounding woodland is a fascinating habitat for wildlife. Don’t be surprised if you encounter the odd deer or sneaky fox – just please make sure your food is stored away from all animal foragers. Barbecues are allowed on site, but of course you can also sneak off to the two local pubs (both around five minutes’ drive) for a pint and helpings of comfort food.

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked The site was just what we wanted. Not too busy and plenty of space. Felt safe for the dogs and the kids. If u go out the campsite and turn left and left again, it has the most beautiful ford and a really lovely walk. Owners were lovely and you didn't feel rushed

From the manager: Thank you for such a nice review.

We do have some very pretty walks here. There are lots of off-road circular walks around the farm, ranging from about ten minutes for tinies to hours and hours for hardy souls.

Please come again and go exploring!

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Basic but beautiful and perfect for what we needed! Keith & Audrey were friendly, helpful and flexible with sorting out our plots on arrival.
Tons of space for 8 children/three families to go crashing about. The large field gave us a great sense of privacy despite several campers being pitched/in tourers. Incredibly peaceful!!!! We enjoyed the well kept woods, grasshopper catching, several rope swings and the good walking paths towards the lake.
Amenities were basic but several toilets stocked with paper and soap, also never occupied (don’t miss the female toilets at the back of the block).
As Keith says - more scouting than glamping, a lovely vibe. Really loved it here, thanks!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Quiet location. Almost like wild camping. Not too busy . Nice walks around the area. This was our second visit.

Disliked Area around toilets could be tidied up a bit and toilets although generally clean could do with some maintenance.

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked It was a convenient stop on the way to LeShuttle.
Pitches were nice and big

Disliked There was only one female toilet and two portaloos. The toilet was very small and because the door was left open it was all wet. The men’s toilets were bigger but the doors either wouldn’t close or wouldn’t lock.
Google maps brings you down a small lane that has a ford. Not suitable for most campers, the lady who owns it did kindly give us different directions.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re sorry that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us.

We apologise for the water in the ladies’ loo. Unfortunately, we had torrential rain on the day of your visit which did leave a bit of a mess.

The issues with the mens’ loo were brought to our attention over the weekend and we have fixed the locks.

The directions given by Google are beyond our control, which is why we flag this issue up in two places on our entry. For the avoidance of further doubt, we would advise guests that when Google Maps instructs you to drive through a ford, you should ignore this advice. Please read the directions provided and the signs located by the ford itself if you have inadvertently driven up the wrong road.

Route directions

Please make sure that you use Gravelpit Hill Lane to access the site. Satnav devices often suggest Ellis’ Hill as the best route. Please don’t come this way. There is a ford which is sometimes quite deep. You need to be on the B3030 (Arborfield to Twyford or vice versa) to reach the site. Drive to the top of Gravelpit Hill Lane, and then turn right. The farm is a few hundred yards along on the left. What3words: blip.reverted.cutback.
