  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar and barbecue area on site
Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon. San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort' (high praise indeed…) And you might want to stay at WeCamp San Sebastián too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorgeous Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah! WeCamp San Sebastián is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up-to-date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure. For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the WeCamp San Sebastián bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (plus)

Liked: Nice site. Fairly big pitches. Friendly reception at check in. Good bar / restaurant. Great bus into town from right outside the site.

Disliked: Some pitches had tight access & trees in the middle of them. Difficult for larger motorhomes. You need to book as they were turning loads of people away saying they were full (even when there were pitches free). There was only 1 fresh water hose on the site for motorhomes & one chemical disposal. Could definitely do with some more water taps at least.

Primitive grass and gravel campervan campsite

Liked: Amazing location in terms of proximity to San Sebastián. A bus every 20 minutes which takes about 30 minutes to the city centre, situated right outside the campsite.
We had some lunch in the on site restaurant, the baguettes were lovely and a decent enough choice for a quick bite.
Huge shower facilities, clean and tidy albeit on an uphill from where we were staying.

Disliked: Showers in the first morning were cold. Pitches a little neglected.
Make sure you follow the directions as per the website and not the sat nav. It’s easy to get to from the city centre otherwise you go up some very windy roads which would be a struggle (we were in a campervan).
I am sure when the pool was open it would be great for children too as we were out of season.

Primitive grass and gravel campervan campsite

Liked: Proximity to San Sebastián and ease of public transport was brilliant. Reception were helpful, toilet block was well maintained

Disliked: No signage for drinking water. The 2 pitches we were offered were small and on quite a steep hill but I think this was due to a busy easter weekend. The shop was shut while we were there. Not sure if that was also due to it being easter weekend

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (plus)

Liked: We liked the fact that the bus stops just a few yard from the campsite so it's easy to get into town.

Disliked: We paid 105€ for 2 nights. The most expensive site that we've ever booked. We then had to pay extra for electricity! The pitches are short, narrow and uneven. They are grit pitches - impossible to keep the tiny bits of grit out of the van. The facilities were a fair walk from the pitches. No soap, hot water or hand drying facilities in the toilet block and the showers were ok but not great. Wifi signal unobtainable from our pitch. We popped our head into the restaurant - cafe style on par with a UK burger bar. Very uninspiring.

Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from WeCamp San Sebastián – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding. San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine. It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe; small wonder that, along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016... The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world.
