  • Peaceful Nord-Pas-de-Calais site five minutes' drive from Camiers
  • Le Touquet, Parc Bagatelle and Nausicaá within a half-hour drive
  • Restaurant and summer food truck on site; sandy beach 15 minutes' walk
How's this for a setting for a seaside break in Nord-Pas-de-Calais? Camping Cristal d’Opale is tucked away among the dunes at the southern corner of the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park, about five minutes' drive from Camiers, and it’s a lovely spot for a relaxed break close to the coast. What you want from a seaside holiday is, of course, a beach not too far away – and this site certainly delivers on that front, as the extensive sands of Plage Sainte-Cécile are about 15 minutes’ walk away. This location, just a little way back from the shoreline (with no sea views), means that pitches are nicely sheltered from coastal breezes; it also puts you within easy walking distance of a couple of restaurants near the beach (and there are a couple more in Camiers, along with a supermarket for picnic supplies). As well as being able to walk to the local beach easily enough, you’ll also be well placed for other destinations along the coast, including Le Touquet and Boulogne-sur-Mer (both within 25 minutes’ drive) and the various forest areas around the natural park. So that’s a pretty resounding thumbs-up for the setting, but what about the place itself? Well, this is one of those sites that’s focused on peaceful times rather than being packed with lots of noisy activities and facilities. That said, you will have access to a play area for energetic kids, and there’s occasional low-key entertainment on site. A launderette, a wifi service and modern bathrooms (with wheelchair access and baby facilities) are also on site, and there’s a bar-restaurant along with a food truck for more eating options in summer. While there isn't a chemical waste disposal point on site, the site can point you towards a partner campsite, 10 minutes' drive away, with such facilities.

What customers say

This site is being renovated. Guests love the beach access and friendly staff. However, some find the pitches sandy and uneven, and the washrooms could be cleaner and warmer. The restaurant is basic. Promising, but still a work in progress.

Liked The fact we only stayed 1 night

Disliked NO ELSAN POINT its in small print that you can use their sister site but how far is that??
Very abrupt girl on check in
Pitches all sand had to park right on side so we didn't get stuck as saw many campervan s getting stuck
Poor toilets and showers filthy
Very noisy..silly young staff in buggy with megaphones driving up and around so called pitches shouting what was on in site
If only staying 1 night don't get conned in to deposit 100 euros for key fob
Dont book early ferry next day as exit barrier only open at 8 am if u don't have key for

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We are sorry that your one-night stay did not meet your expectations. We would nevertheless like to clarify a few points.

Our campsite is located in a natural environment, directly by the dunes and the sea. The sandy pitches are therefore part of the natural character of the site. Depending on weather conditions, the ground can also be softer, which is why we recommend choosing your pitch carefully. Our team is always available to assist campers if needed.

Regarding the toilets and showers, they are cleaned several times a day. As with any shared facilities, their condition can unfortunately vary depending on how they have just been used by previous guests.

The person travelling around the campsite with the loudspeaker is our activity leader, whose role is to inform guests about the activities taking place on site. July is a lively period, with many families enjoying the activities offered by the campsite.

Regarding the access arrangements, our reception is open continuously from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, 7 days a week. We believe these are fairly broad opening hours and allow our guests plenty of flexibility for their arrival and departure. Access outside these hours is possible with the appropriate access fob.

As for the €100 deposit for the key fob, this is simply a security deposit and is fully returned when the fob is handed back.

Finally, the possibility of using the facilities at our sister campsite is indicated in the information provided to guests.

We regret that the atmosphere and natural setting of our campsite did not meet your expectations, and we wish you a pleasant continuation.

Liked Der freundliche Email-Kontakt.

Jammer.

From the manager: Hartelijk dank voor uw feedback.

Local attractions

Plage Sainte-Cécile (15 minutes’ walk) is likely to be the centre of attention, whether you choose to sit or stroll quietly, play in the sand or join one of the summer activities like beach volleyball or paddleboarding. Le Touquet (20 minutes’ drive) is a good option for a change of scenery, with classic architecture to see and beach bars along its stretch of soft sandy beach. For a bit more activity along the coast, book horse riding with one of the equestrian centres around Le Touquet, play golf at Golf d'Hardelot - Les Dunes (20 minutes) or get up into the trees at Opalaventure Park (five minutes). There are lots of lovely walks around too, perhaps in the Parc du Rohart nature reserve (five minutes) or the Dunes du Mont Saint-Frieux (10 minutes). Family days out? Try the rides and rollercoasters of Parc Bagatelle or check out the underwater world at Nausicaá Centre National De La Mer (both half an hour), Europe’s biggest aquarium.
