  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro-bar on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive instead and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. The nearest pub is right on site: the bistro-bar, named The Landsker Line, dishes out local Pembrokeshire ales, soft drinks and coffee, as well as food like pasties, sausage rolls, loaded fries and ice cream. It's a splendid place to refuel and unwind, especially since it has sports TVs and live music from artists throughout the season. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There are also several restaurants within a five-minute drive of the site, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

What customers say

Great spot across from a beautiful beach! Staff are super friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean and well-kept, with a pizza van and pub on site. Some found it a bit busy with occasional road noise and pricey showers/pizza, but overall it's a well-loved spot for its vibe and seaside access.

Primitive grass campsite (no pets)

Liked Lovely views, great set up having the showers and wash room facilities. Staff were really pleasant and helpful

Disliked Very difficult getting on and off the beach as you need to climb over a hill of loose pebbles but its not a dislike to the campsite at all. The only dislike is not having the pub there anymore since it burnt down. OK there is a small cafe bar there but not the same.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Martin,
Thank you for your kind feedback! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the views, facilities, and found our staff helpful and welcoming. Access to the beach is managed by the council, and we understand the pebbles can make it tricky at times, but we’re glad you still made the most of it. We also miss the old pub, but we’re happy our little café bar is able to provide a cosy spot on-site. Delighted you enjoyed your stay overall and we’d love to welcome you back again soon.
All the best,
Charlotte, Team Newgale

Primitive grass campsite

Liked What an absolute treasure of a site.
Facilities were clean and accessible.
Pitch sizes were good.
The staff were wonderful - so helpful.
Coming back next year for a week - only stayed 3 nights and it was just not long enough.
The beach is a stone's throw away from the campsite.

From the manager: Hi There,
Thank you for your kind words! We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities, pitches, and staff to your liking. It’s great to hear you’re already planning a longer visit next year – we look forward to welcoming you back and giving you more time to enjoy the beach right on our doorstep.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Absolutely wonderful place to stay for my birthday wknd even with the bit of strong winds, facilities were all clean and great and the site is located perfectly for the sunsets and beach walks. The pebbles are too high to see the sea from the site and walking over them isn't so difficult...

From the manager: Hi Caroline,
Thank you for choosing to spend your birthday weekend with us! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the facilities, sunsets, and walks on the beach — even with a bit of wind. We’re glad to hear it didn’t stop you enjoying the beach. We hope to welcome you back for more special occasions in the future.
All the best,

Primitive grass campsite

Liked It was a lovely site, with good and spotless amenities like the idea for freezer for ice blocks even though I forgot to get them back as my dog was not well so left early but very well run by staff carnt do enough for u ,go out of there way to help will b back next year

Disliked Only thing which isn't the sites fault is try to get to beach as I'm unsteady on leg as waiting for knee replacement

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Tracey,
Thank you for your lovely review. We’re glad to hear you found the site well run and the team so helpful. We’re sorry to hear about the difficulty with the beach access — unfortunately the shingle bank is maintained by the council as part of sea defences, so it’s not something we’re able to change. We do understand it can be tricky for some visitors, but we’re glad you still enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back next year.

From the manager: Hi There,
Thanks for your review. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your stay overall.
With the facilities, our toilets and showers are deep cleaned daily and checked regularly throughout the day. On especially busy weekends, they can get untidy quickly between cleans, but our team works hard to stay on top of it. Sorry to hear they weren’t at their best when you visited.
All the best,

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Also close by is the pretty seaside village of Solva (10 minutes), where you can go crabbing, dine on seafood and see gorgeous local crafts at Solva Woollen Mill. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes) or go riding on the beach at Nolton Haven (10 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Carmarthen Bay. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
