  • Small campsite for adults only in the village of Llanystumdwy
  • A 15-minute drive to Snowdonia National Park; 25 minutes to Caernarfon
  • Well-maintained grass pitches and shower block; communal dining area
Family-run The Paddocks Caravan and Camping is a small and ultra-organised site with well-maintained, flat and spacious pitches in north Wales. It’s less than five minutes’ drive to the beach at Criccieth, and around half an hour to the imposing castles at Harlech and Caernarfon, making this a cracking adults-only base from which to explore the Llŷn Peninsula. It's a 10-minute trip by car to the wide, south-facing sands at Pwllheli, a former haunt of smugglers and pirates. You'll find it quite a bit calmer these days, especially if you follow the fab Llŷn Peninsula Coastal Path round the peninsula for views and wildlife and splendid sea air. Sandcastles, paddling and rockpool exploration are all there for the taking. If you’d rather ditch the car, a bus stop is five minutes’ walk away, or you can explore on two legs – perhaps a good place to start is the local village of Llanystumdwy (five minutes’ walk), as it’s the burial place of former Prime Minister David Lloyd George. You can see his grave and visit a small museum, and afterwards stroll down the banks of the scenic River Dwyfor. Gleaming facilities on site include a well-lit shower block with two private bathrooms (each containing a large shower, wash-hand basin and toilet), plus three adjacent toilets and two separate showers (each with a dressing room and one with a hair dryer). Nearby is a covered communal area with a table and seating, plus two washing-up sinks, a fridge-freezer, a separate drinks fridge, a microwave, toaster and a kettle. There's also a phone-charging point. Firepits and barbecues are allowed, but they must be raised off the ground and set up on one of the concrete slabs provided. Small chimineas and barbecues are available for nightly hire on site, and you can buy logs and charcoal here too. Please note that parties are not permitted – this is a quiet site.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked One of the best campsites we've visited. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. All the pitches were lovely and flat.
A great area was the communal area where there was a fridge to use, washing up, eggs and other things to buy with an honesty box.
Would definitely visit again.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Very clean. Extremely nice people. Lots of toilets and showers. An easy bus ride to Criccieth and the bus is quite regular (hourly). 5 minute walk to the village, but nothing there apart from the Lloyd George Museum. Should be good when the pub reopens.

Disliked Hard standing is a bit small, just over the width of our campervan. But I guess most people like to have grass under their awning. The wifi was good but requires inputting the password twice. This caused a problem with the TV and I had to do a work around a few times.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The Paddocks campsite is one of the best sites we have ever stayed on in the Uk. The pitch was large and very level. Our tent flew up in the space allowed and even enabled us to fence in our dogs. The bathroom facilities are amazing, two full bathrooms, two shower rooms and three separate toilets and they were spotlessly clean all the time. The communal space provided a large covered area with a large table suitable for campers to use in bad weather. There was a microwave, two toasters, a kettle, large fridge and a freezer with free ice! What a wonderful luxury to have ice for our drinks. Leigh and Juliette are fantastic hosts and I think they have thought of everything! Clear recycling also helped us to sort out our rubbish, love knowing that we are doing our bit for the environment! The camp is only a short walk to the main road and buses run through to Pwellhi or Porthmadog. We walked into Criccieth and enjoyed lunch out and a few cocktails! We will definitely be booking again.

Disliked Nothing. Except leaving!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We had an excellent stay at The Paddocks. It is a lovely site, and only a mile and a half from Criccieth. The facilities were spotlessly clean and a few extra details made it a great experience. For example, we were relieved to use the toaster and kettle when it was raining in the morning. Would highly recommend this site to couples seeking a peaceful getaway.
