Spring Rock Fishery: Sunset

General

  • Peaceful, scenic countryside site near the Llandegley Rocks
  • A 10-minute drive to Llandrindod Wells; 25 minutes to Elan Valley
  • Pleasure fishing on site; pub serving food within walking distance

Anglers, hikers, pub goers and horse riders… settle serenely down at this site for all of what you seek, in a peaceful position in the Powys countryside.

Spring Rock Fishery is set near the Llandegley Rocks, with several public rights of way starting right from it including a spectacular waterfall walk and forest hikes. It has its own pleasure fishery for anglers of all abilities, made up of a 15-foot lake with mirror, common, ghost and koi carp up to 25lbs; river fishing on the Ithon and fly fishing are both available nearby too.

Several sports and leisure centres with swimming pools are in in the area too, along with a riding centre and pony trekking, 4x4 drives and kayaking along the Wye. And whatever flavour of break you go for, you'll likely like a stroll to the Severn Arms within walking distance of the site, which serves real ales, pub grub and takeaway (please note there's a short roadside section on the walk to the pub).

Spring Rock has a toilet and shower block, a separate washing up area and a chemical disposal point.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests under the age of 20 are not allowed on site.

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

A charge of £0.20 ($0.32) applies for the use of the shower.

Only a limited number of anglers is allowed to fish at any one time. Please use the 'special requests' box to express your interest (unfortunately, requests cannot be guaranteed). Day tickets are only available for the pleasure lake; there is no day ticket access to the specimen carp lake at any time.

Anyone wishing to fish the carp specimen lake must have appropriate carp fishing equipment including large 42” landing net, unhooking mat, carp care medikit and rod licence. No alarms allowed. Those without the correct equipment will be refused access.

Please be aware that the fishery can close at any time during spawning.

One of those amazing sites you don't want too shout about as want future availability to return too but given the friendliness and standard of cleanliness there is nothing else to do but tell everyone about how good this site is. They have a keen awareness of environmental factors and harvest rainwater, collect solar energy and encourage recycling. We walked out with our dog and sat watching the nature around us just relaxing. (Lots of bird life to see and signs of fish in the lake). Have booked return visit already.

Received a warm welcome on arrival by the owner who was very knowledgeable of the area and was able to give us some tips on some local walking spots. The site was very quiet with hardly any passing traffic on the lane it was situated on. The facilities were spotless and found it handy having washing up room, which had lots of information on the local area including walks, places to eat etc. Waking up to a lake every morning was a bonus.

The location with lovely views; pod situated overlooking the lake. Very comfortable bed in the Cwtch camping pod, close to the shower block.

    Disliked:

Being told not to walk on the grass because of walking it into the shower block; had to walk on the grass to go fishing on the lake!! My husband was disappointed as he didn't catch any fish.

From the manager...

Thanks guys! Sorry you felt a bit disappointed unfortunately as much as we’d love to we can’t guarantee the fish will jump on your hook. Those that tend to do well on the lake do spend the day fishing rather than just an hour or two. We actively tell all our guests to regularly venture round all of our site as we’re very proud of the work we put into our grounds and you’ll hopefully get to see all kinds of wildlife and flowers. We’d certainly never discourage anyone from walk on the grass unless it’s where there’s slabbed pave ways to the facilities etc. We do always ask our guests if they wonder round the grounds especially when wet or freshly mowed if they’d be kind enough to remove their grassy or muddy footwear prior to going into the facilities to help us keep them in top clean condition for you all plus also it helps prevent the shower traps clogging with lots of grass. Most are very obliging and happy to do so which is why we always get such positive reviews of our facilities as so many like to help keep them clean. Very sorry if you felt you couldn’t access the grounds at all!

Nice quiet site, away from it all. Beautiful dark night skies, torch needed.. Great price for a nights hook up. Mile walk to the Severn Arms Penybont. Very clean toilets and modern hot powerful showers. Coin operated £1 for 5 mins. Hard standing and grass available. Good washing up room. Friendly owner. Wi-fi was so good we could run our firestick which often we can't on sites. He has the fibre broadband.

    Disliked:

Nothing. I would only ask for paper towels to be added to toilets.

From the manager...

Thank you for your booking and review very much appreciated. We do provide a hand towel again now in both ladies and gents that’s changed on a daily basis unfortunately we here at spring rock are dead keen on doing everything we possibly can to help the environment. Blow air hand drier’s are not very economical to run and would take up a lot of our spare solar power on good days and paper towels, I don’t like the thought of trees being cut to make paper towels just to dry hands and throw in the bin to go to land fill.

The view from the site is stunning and the location is close to Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells and the Elan Valley.
The facilities were spotless and ample for the size of the site. The owner was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He could be easily contacted and made sure we weren't left stranded over a busy Easter weekend. The pitches are mostly hardstanding although grass was an option. If you like to fish it is an ideal spot. We would definitely come back here if in the area.

    Disliked:

We didn't dislike anything but a couple more hooks on the inside of the shower door would be appreciated.

From the manager...

Thank you guys pleasure having you stay with us look forward to seeing you again this year! Yes we will get some extra hooks in our showers asap.
