  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly location with personal firepits available to hire
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, making it one one of the closest sites to the city centre yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4, with easy access from the A46 and A420, just outside Bath's Clean Air Zone. So what’s included with your stay? This off-grid site on a working farm has modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs) – just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. If you'd rather have a firepit to yourself, personal firepits can be hired for an additional fee. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs, and within easy reach of walks on the Cotswold Way and around Beckford's Tower.

What customers say

Great spot for exploring Bath! The Park and Ride is right across the street. John, the owner, is super friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean and well-kept, especially the showers. Campsites are usually spacious and flat. A few small things could be improved, but overall, folks loved it and want to come back!

Primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Location. Very handy for buses into Bath

Disliked Price! £30 without electric is pushing it a bit. Also a bit noisy. Lots of vehicles using the farm road at odd hours

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
We’re pleased you enjoyed our location and found the nearby bus service into Bath convenient.

Regarding the price, the pitch booked was clearly advertised as a non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch, and Lansdown Campsite is advertised as an off-grid campsite, so electric hook-up was never included in the £30 price.

Our pricing is also in line with comparable touring and camping options around Bath, particularly considering our proximity and convenient access to the city.

The £30 is not simply for a piece of ground. Our facilities are regularly cleaned and maintained, with clean toilets, hot showers, hot water for washing up, and regularly emptied waste and recycling facilities.
We work hard to maintain these standards, which is reflected in our consistently strong guest reviews and scores.

Regarding noise, these particular pitches are situated beside the farm driveway, as clearly shown in our Pitchup photographs.
The driveway serves the campsite, farm and farmhouse, so some vehicle movement during the day is unavoidable, although this reduces considerably during our quiet hours from 10pm. - Had you mentioned that the position was an issue during your stay, we would have happily offered you a grass touring pitch further away from the driveway.

One of the advantages of Lansdown Campsite is being able to enjoy countryside surroundings while remaining just minutes from historic Bath, with straightforward access for larger vehicles and the Park & Ride almost opposite. Being this close to a city means we cannot offer the complete isolation of a remote rural campsite, but our location, facilities and exceptionally convenient access to Bath are all reflected in our pricing.

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to leave your feedback.

This is an excellent location if visiting Bath.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really convenient for going into Bath, simple site but almost everything you need. Friendly owner. Having a giant connect 4 game and a gazebo to use was a really good touch.

Disliked Having a charging point for mobiles would be extremely helpful. More than one hook in the shower would also be really useful.

From the manager: Unfortunately I cant help the weather. Welcome to the UK.
Lansdown is a very high elevated hill, in some parts it will be very windy at times. Generally the summer time is more mild winds but with climate change its not easy to predict.

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
